The Hive, The Metropolis, The Mega-City...estimates put the population at almost half a billion, but no one really knows.

In the past, before the Corporate Wars, there were governments, nations, and armies. There were concepts like democracy and freedom...and citizen's rights. But even those things are an uncertainty under the tainted clouds of acid rain and within the barrier walls protecting the cities from the irradiated wastelands that cover 90% of the planet.

Revolution

The only thing that's certain is that crime is everywhere, and there aren't enough peacekeepers to keep things under control.

Peacekeepers come in three varieties...

Private security. Well equipped and well paid, but often disturb the peace more than they keep it.

Vigilantes. Dedicated and dangerous, but often unable to move beyond their focus on a single cause.

...and...

The Agents of the Law. Outnumbered, but not necessarily outgunned. The ultimate symbols of the justice in the city, but sometimes that justice is obscured in shades of grey. It's their stories we follow.

The Law is a roleplaying game by Vulpinoid Studios and uses the latest evolution of a system that began in the FUBAR roleplaying game. Characters creation is a fast process designed to quickly get players into the action, and storytelling involves a fun game mechanisms where players roll two or more dice then choose which of them indicates their degree of success, and which indicates any sacrifices made in the attempt.

The whole game is designed in comic book format, illustration heavy, and filled with icons and accessible terms to make it aproachable for new roleplayers and those who are veterans of other systems.

Agency Armour

There will be more books for ths game coming over the next few months, offering ways to explore the massive sprawling city in which the stories of The Law take place, as well as card decks detailing characters met during the course of play, and new equipment for agents and those they face in the alleys, on the streets and in the tunnels below.

Nice speedy system, gives a lot of agency to the players. especially, the accumulating skill results mechanic is a good feature.

Easy to use and run as most complicated situations are handled in narrative, as if for a movie scene description. I like the difficulty scaling, too.

Some small examples associated with rules descriptions would have been useful, especially the benefits/problems section. Also, references to the character sheet and the final page would have made a few sections a lot clearer.

The typos generally didn't get in the way much. However, the repeated text box on page 12 was a bit jarring.

Overall: really good. A nice light fast treatment of a well-known setting.

Note: this is a review, but I'm not waiting as I've already read it. :D

Wow... I never noticed that repeated text box. I'll fix that up when I get a chance, thanks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
