Strange Stars Fate Rule Book

Selected Option:

It's the far future, Old Earth is lost and shrouded in legend, and the children of paleo-humanity have long ago populated the stars, branching into new forms and strange cultures. Adventure is measured in light-years!

STRANGE STARS is a setting where modern transhuman science fiction meets classic 70s space opera. Now you can explore the STRANGE STARS universe powered by Fate Core!

Join a salvage mission to steal ancient tech from the wreck of a deranged sophont warship. Become a skiptracer in the lawless orbital megapolis of Interzone. Cross swords with a Zao Pirate in hard vacuum. Experience it all with STRANGE STARS FATE!

This 51-page rule book includes:

  • Templates for creating characters from 26 clades from Aurogov self-improvement cultists to armored thrax warriors--and rules for creating new clades.
  • A catalog of adversaries and threats from the monstrous ssraad to the more subtle agents of the Instrumentality.
  • A gazeteer of known worlds and rules for creating worlds and hyperspace network clusters.
  • Rules for factions and example factions from the setting. Put your mark on the galaxy on a bigger scale!

The Strange Stars Fate Rule Book is a companion to STRANGE STARS and requires the setting book to unlock its full potential.

Are there any playthroughs on line? Example sessions, scenarios, or campaigns other than in the book?

Great question! For your convenience, here is a link to ALL my blog posts that are Strange Stars related:

http://fatesf.blogspot.com/search/label/Strange%20Stars/

I'll be running a Strange Stars Fate game for Free RPG Day at Source Comics and Games in Roseville, MN, so I'll try to be intentional about capturing something "actual play-ish" after the session.

I noticed in the example for creating worlds Andrea says, “An E+2 is ‘One garden world or two survivable worlds and/or a few orbital habitats." But the actual chart says, "One garden world and several survivable worlds and/or numerous orbital habitats." Might not seem like a big difference, but if you can only have one or the other versus all of the above that is a huge difference.

Hi There! The Strange Stars setting is sparsely populated with earthlike worlds. You should defer to the table; it looks like we missed an edit of the example.

You don't have the FATE logo on the cover and I think there may be a need to add a page for the FATE disclaimer. These weren't in the pdf that I just downloaded.

Sorry, just found the section 15 disclaimer. But, not the Powered by FATE Core logo.

You're correct. There isn't a requirement under the license for the "Powered by Fate" logo, but we had intended to use it.

Just waiting for approval and our check of the proof. I expect it will be a couple more weeks at worst.

It was submitted for approval the end of last week. Once we get approval, we'll get proof copies and if all looks good, release it to the wild. I expect a couple more weeks.

I loved the generic setting book. I plan on getting this on my next paycheck. In the book it pictured a lot of crossover items including a choose your own adventure book and an atari game cartridge. This is one of those crossover possibilities. The whole setting is a remix of famiar tropes so everything feels like that. There is a cool full color picture of a starship captain version of Uhura that was alone almost worth the purchase price.

The illustration t is certainly an homage to the classic Star Frontiers cover. Most people seem to like it. :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
