The Russian Revolution was by no means a simple thing. The February 1917 revolution was followed months later by the far better known November Revolution that put the communists into power. But overthrowing the central government does not give one central control. The communists would spend the next six years struggling to conquer the Russian Empire, quelling both internal civil war and subjugating breakaway states. By 1923, the Soviets were in firm control over a nation battered and broken by more than half a decade of war.

After the end of the civil war, industrialization was seen as the key to rebuilding the nation and one particular industry was seen as more important than most others - the automotive industry. Trucks were seen as one of the prime needs in restoring commerce.

The first truck off the assembly lines in 1924 was the AMO-F-15 1.5 ton truck. It was a copy of the 1911 Italian Fiat F15 truck, thanks to a monopoly production license established by wealthy Russian aristocrats in 1916. In fact, the first Soviet trucks off the assembly lines were actually assembled from knock-down kits supplied by Fiat eight years earlier. It would be nearly 3 more years before the USSR was producing the truck from scratch.

The AMO-F-15 would provide the basis for the Red Army's growing military power, first supplying the trucks needed to move an army, and then by supplying the chassis for the first Soviet heavy armored car, the BA-27. Before this, Red Army armored cars were small, cramped, clumsy affairs built up from light cars and touring sedans, barely able to carry a machine gun as a weapon. The BA-27 was a game changer, bearing better armor and the weapons of a light tank, particularly after the triple-axled BA-27M was developed to provide unrivaled offroad capability in the Red Army fleet.

This document fully details the BA-27 and BA-27M armored cars, as well as the AMO-F-15 truck. Also documented are the Degtyarev light machine gun series and the Puteaux SA18 37mm tank gun family from which the Soviet PS-1 tank gun is derived. Appendices provide information compatible with D20 Modern, Spycraft 2.0 and Savage Worlds.

Unlike past issues of Big Bang Ricochet, the silver-covered books will provide everything necessary to allow you to drop the vehicle straight into your game. No more hunting for other issues covering weapon entries included in previous issues. please be aware this all-inclusive nature means that these silver edition booklets may occasionally duplicate material that has appeared in previous products.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
