I feel stupid asking for this but how do you do with monsters who ability scores go above 100 (Giants and Dragons specifically) I assume that they succeed/ hit unless they roll a 95-99?

It is a great game by the way.

That is correct! Don't forget the multi-action penalty. Those powerful monsters can devastate a group of low level characters!

Would love to use these rules, but don't know how to attack: on page 28 the book states "to attack, you roll d00 and must roll less or equal to your listed chance to hit (which is explained in character creation)" -- no, it isn't, or I am blind.
My guess would be that it's the weapon score, because I didn't find any application of that either.

Hi and thanks for the feedback. Yes it could be much clearer. It is there. In step 8 “final details”…

» Weapon Score is equal to either your melee or ranged Warrior score, depending on the type of weapon.
» Weapon Damage is determined by weapon type. For each 5 points of STR above 55 gain +1 to melee damage (62 STR causes +1 damage, for instance). For each 5 points of DEX above 55 gain +1 to ranged damage.
» Unarmed Score is equal to your Warrior melee score.
» Unarmed Damage is equal to 1D/2. For each 5 points of STR above 55 gain +1 to unarmed damage.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, I'm probably just stupid, but the paragraph you quote speaks of weapon score, weapon damage, unarmed score, and unarmed damage. How does that relate to "chance to hit"?

weapon score is your chance to hit enemies with that weapon. As I said - it could be much clearer :-)

I told myself, NO MORE GAMES!!, been binging on games lately :)
But something about this one egged me on. Couldn't help myself.

This isn't yet another redone D&D clone. Yeah, it uses the same ole cliches. Magic users, clerics, warriors, thieves. The stats seem to be the usual. But wait a moment.
Cleric is a skill? There isn't a bajillion spells. There isn't a bajillion weird monsters. Combat isn't overcomplex.
This design really IS Barebones, but, it's still complete.

I treated myself to the hardcover. I'm rather looking forward to giving this one some of my time. I think this game can really perform in the hands of a talented DM, and won't overwhelm a new DM. If this product has not gained any accolades, then they are over due.

I've noticed that the rank table on p.22 notes a +1 in rank for a highest ability of 50-99. Since characters are supposed to start at rank 1 and not rank 2, I wondered if that was not a typo. Perhaps it was meant to read 80-99 instead?

It is WHY characters begin at Rank 1 :-)

:-( I’m sorry. I’m trying to work with another person on the project but our schedules never align. Maybe I should just go back to doing it alone…

News about a possible second edition of this fun game? Maybe even a re-edition putting corebook, setting and extra races in one single book? A kickstarter maybe?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
