He Who Laughs Last

AJOUTER A LA LISTE DE SOUHAITS >
Option choisie:

He Who Laughs Last is a horror mystery RPG scenario set in modern day Los Angeles. The investigators are drawn into the mystery when their friend, who works as an assistant to a popular comedian, apparently commits suicide under suspicious circumstances. However, the police are unwilling to look into the mystery and multiple clue paths quickly lead the investigators into a deep and evil mystery thousands of years in the making.

This scenario is best run with 3-6 players and takes between 6-8 hours to play. It has been written for (and contains the complete rules for) the rules-light game system Cthulhu Dark, which was created by Graham Walmsley specifically to share with people like you and me. This book has everything you need to run this game, except the requisite friends, d6, and pencil and paper. It also helps if you like weirdness and horror.

The PDF package includes both Letter and A4 sized PDFs, as well as 10 b/w scene postcards (drawn by Jared Manninen) of the various locations in the scenario.

Also be sure to check out the He Who Laughs Last GM Kit, which gives plenty of props and PCs, as well as the He Who Laughs Last Short Story, which fictionalizes the scenario, both available for sale.

Unfortunately, the link to the GM kit in the text blurb above is incorrect and non-functional.

Try https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/176323/ instead.

I've seen so many useless "previews" on this site that I make a point of calling them out every time, in the hopes that at least some of the publishers will pay attention and get the message: Hey publishers! Stop auto-generating previews from the first six pages of your document, without any consideration to the content of those pages!. The point of a preview is to help sell your product; a poor one makes you look lazy, incompetent, or both, which is *not* going to encourage people to buy.

I realize that with a product this short, there's a worry of giving "too much" away, but I'd argue that a bad preview is worse than none at all. And this is one of the worst I've ever seen: a credits page, a title page, a blank page, an introduction, and an unlabeled, two-page map of LA. That's one page of six that tells me anything useful about the product.

Thank you for taking my criticism to heart and doing something about it. The new preview is a definite improvement.

Rest assured that I wasn't offended; I just see this sort of thing way too often here, and I'm trying to *teach* some "best practices" by being the proverbial squeaky wheel. In other words, I'm hoping that if I make enough noise about it, it will cause publishers to take notice and think twice before posting useless previews in the future. I hope I didn't cause any hard feelings.

Can this be ported to another location and used with other PC? I run a horror game set in New Orleans with my own set of PC. ;)

Can it easily be converted/played with standard (7e) Call of Cthulhu rules?

The full KS package has 7E conversions to it, I believe.

I supported this scenario on Kickstarter and was more than pleased with the result. The PDF is a good deal for an investigative adventure which will cover at least 2 standard 2-3 hour gaming sessions. And Cthulhu Dark is a relatively abstract system, and this scenario will easily work for a more robust RPG system.
