Bombs fell. Billions died. Now you must pick up the pieces and rebuild this Broken Earth.

Broken Earth is an adventure setting that takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Earth. It deals with a small fraction of the world, what was once the northern Midwest of the United States, and a tiny bit of southern Central Canada. As an adventure setting, Broken Earth includes many compelling locations and adventures, but also gives the heroes freedom to explore the world.

The book gives the GM everything you need to run a prolonged campaign in the Broken Earth setting, including locations, NPCs, plot points, mutant monsters, and a detailed first adventure that brings the party together.

This book also contains everything in the Broken Earth Player's Guide. If you are a player in a Broken Earth campaign you might want to check out the Player's Guide instead. If you are a GM you should just get this book. You do NOT need both.

This is the Savage Worlds Compatible version of the book. The is also a Pathfinder RPG compatible version.

Make sure you also check out the Broken Earth Poker Deck.

Does anyone know if this requires the separate savage worlds rulebook?

Is there anyway to get the game map without the location markers?

Right now the map pdf has layers that you can turn off separately, including one for location markers. If that doesn't help let me know a little more specifically what you want and I'll see if I can work out something.

@ Kenneth B, we actually just released the first expansion a few days ago:
It's going to be the first in a series of small .pdfs that detail new locations around the Great Lakes.

Matthew, Have you decided if you are going to make expansions?

This is one of the best SW settings I have read(and I have nearly ALL of them). I really like how the communities are set up to grow and improve somewhat like character might. A community has Edges and resources and there are (very playable-non cumbersome) rules for how this works and how the PCs can adventure to help gain these elements for a town! The PCs grow and level as in all SW settings but in BW the communities are alive and need the PCs to flourish. This concept alone could fuel a enjoyable campaign that could go for years (REAL and GAME). Broken Worlds is very much about survival and all the drama and action it takes to do just that! As a GM, Broken Worlds got me dreaming up story lines right away - that's how I know it's a winner! If you like the genre and SW - get this!

Loving the book so far! I personally like the Simian idea, the whole PotA thing. Is there any plan for any expansion material in the future?

Thanks! I think there's a good chance of doing some expansions. I'm going to see how popular the main book does in the first month or so before I decide for sure.

For what its worth, I was interested in a SW post-apocolypse setting, and the free samples sold me on it. Now I kind of wish I'd gotten it before my current campaign got full throttle...

Question: are you planning a POD version of this book?
Customer avatar
Matthew H February 10, 2014 9:15 pm UTC
Yes, though it probably won't be public until April so it coincides with the in-store release. I normally give customers who purchase .pdfs before the POD a coupon when the latter comes out so they don't pay any more than somebody who waited.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
