I notice that this item has a "Card(s)" option available here on DTRPG. I'm guessing that's some form of hardcopy, but what, exactly, do those look like?

The "cards" option prints the counter sheets on cardstock, similar to what was used in old games like Car Wars. The cardstock is like a playing card finish and thickness, so they are not too thick, but they feel nice. -Alexander Macris, Autarch LLC

Nicholas, thanks for the kind words. I'm the game's designer. I was a competitive DBA player for many years (2nd place at Historicon with 1066 Normans!) The unit counters are 2" wide and 1.16" deep and can be used to play DBA at 15mm scale if desired. Alternatively, Domains at War can be played with DBA-based miniatures. Here is the game's recommended basing:

Frontage 25mm Basing 25mm Figures Per Base 15mm Basing 15mm Figures per Base
Infantry 75mm x 50mm 3 figures wide x 2 figures deep 40mm x 30mm 3 - 4 figures wide x 2 figures deep
Cavalry 75mm x 50mm 3 figures wide x 1 figures deep 40mm x 30mm 3 - 4 figures wide x 1 figure deep
Giants 80mm x 40mm 2 figures wide x 1 figure deep 40mm x 40mm 1 figure
War Mach. 50mm x 60mm 1 war machine + 1-2 crew figures 40mm x 40mm 1 war machine + 1-2 crew figures

I love the overheads. Did the artists do work on Historicals using the same perspective and using the DBA style measurements? If so I'd love to buy packs

Hi Nicholas, I did the art for the counters for DAW.
I like to play DBX and other miniature wargames when I can. I took inspiration from DBX basing, illustrator Ryan Browning's first mock-ups of the counters but mostly I lay my inspiration at the feet of Denis Loubet's fantastic illustrations for Steve Jackson's game counters like Car Wars and Cardboard Heroes. Such good stuff.

Glad you like the look.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
