Inscrutable Puzzlements

The Grand War erupted as a conflict that involved all the nations of the world. Now, after five years of peace, the major powers observe an uneasy truce that can be shattered at any moment. Supernatural creatures stalk the world, while steam-powered inventions and otherworldly magics have resulted in a explosion of new technology. Do you have what it takes to overcome this twisted version of our own history?

Inscrutable Puzzlements is a game of over-the-top action and mystery that is set in an anachronistic version of the late 19th century. The setting contains many elements of Gothic horror, steampunk, and Victorian era trappings. Using the custom d4-10 system, the action flows smoothly and the rules are simple, yet allow for a vast range of customization.

Features:

  • 6 cases (basically one-shot adventures) ready to be used straight from the book.
  • 22 different backgrounds for characters including: Alchemist, Bartitsu Master, Big Game Hunter, Combat Medic, Conduit, Consulting Detective, Cowboy, Curio Peddler, Eccentric Inventor, Entertainer, Gentleman Pugilist, Ghoul, Hedge Wizard, Hellspawn, Lumberjack, Martial Artist, Mystic, Scholar, Scoundrel, Shaman, Siren, Soldier, Vampire, and Werewolf
  • A complete, ready to use setting, which includes factions, events, and descriptions of all relevant nations.
  • Bestiary of over 50 monsters ready to be inserted into any adventure with quick and easy rules for scaling enemies or creating new ones.
  • Boon/Flaw system to allow for complete customization of characters. Want to be a mystical lumberjack who shoots bolts of lightning and flies into berserker rages? Go for it.
  • New ruleset that emphasizes storytelling and gives much more power to the GM.
  • Original artwork in a wide range of diverse styles.
  • Support past production. Open communication directly with the developer for questions about the system as well as periodic freebies to enhance your sessions!

Print and PDF available in B&W 8.5 x 11.

Producer website hasn't seen content since 2015 ... Product shows original listing and last updates as Sept 2014 ... Otherwise in almost 6 years no reviews, no ratings ... no conversation. No reviews or mentions on YouTube. Nothing.

Is this a product that isn't going to get any further attention ? Seems odd it got Product of the Day today ...

Anybody with feedback is welcome ( please and thank you ). Based on the "custom d4-d10 roll system" kinda sounds like maybe it's similar to Savage Worlds ... but I don't know.

Yeah, looks like the product is in a coma of sorts, but I just bought it (as a gift for a friend, so I cannot really review it).
My friend is eternally postponing the start of his steampunk campaign, for less than 5 bucks I thought it would be a nice reminder...

PUBLISHER
Hi there. Yeah, I completed this project when I was in between jobs, and it was basically a one man production. Haven't really done anything else with it, but it is a fully usable system/setting as is.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
