In Mutants & Marvels® you are the hero.  You choose your destiny, and you have a hand in determining the fate of your world.  In the spirit of the four-color comics that inspired these rules, you create a unique superhero, join forces with friends, and defend the innocent against all manner of threats.

Mutants & Marvels® is a unique blend of “old school” game flavor, and “new school” game mechanics.  It is designed to emulate all levels of power, but with simple, flexible rules that allow you as the player, or Referee, to customize the world and the game-play as you see fit.

Inside you will find:

  • A simple, yet somehwat familiar core mechanic
  • A fully player-controlled character creation system
  • A comprehensive list of powers
  • A simple skill system
  • Sample character builds to get you started quickly
  • The basic framework for a campaign setting
  • A sample adventure
  • And much more!

 So, what will your powers be?

This is exactly what i have been looking for !!! I just purchased the PDF and love it. One question, when converting MSHRPG characters what happens if when you combine STR+END for HP = zero? any way , thanks I highly recommend this product to all superhero fans

Oh my. You found a hole in the rules! Honestly, that's an issue that had never crossed my mind (this is why real companies have editors and TEAMS of designers).

Off the cuff, I would say that if your STR and END mods add up to zero (or less), you should probably set a standard minimum. You may even wish to set that minimum for all characters. This would be based on the level of play. Gritty characters would have a smaller amount, whereas Superheroic would have more. So, if you establish the minimum would be 2, then calculating your HP for all characters would be STR + END + 2 = HP (Min 2).

Hope that makes sense. And thanks for the kind words. :)

Ha! I totally get it. I looked into several option its see if it stays balanced with the rules set. I also am converting skills to the game and creating a master list for players to choose from. If you would like to check it out let me know I would love to collaborate.

If I purchase the PDF and decide I really like it, is there a coupon for a discounted POD option?

At this point, there isn't. When I published it, it wasn't a consideration I took into account (shortsighted on my part). However, I did try to make the book as printer-friendly as possible. And due to the relatively short length, having a copy printed and bound at a Kinko's, for instance, might actually be cheaper than the difference between the PDF and the POD versions. Also, if you self-print, you can opt for a spiral binding, which I think might be more functional at the gaming table.

I have the first version of this, what is the difference if I may ask?

Let's see if I can remember...

Revamped the combat system, including the damage rules;
Added rules for random characters;
Clarified some of the power descriptions.

I think there's a couple of other things, but it's been a while (I probably should have tracked that stuff). If you bought the original version in PDF, you should be able to download 2.0 as a new file.

Is this FASERIP? Or something else?

Yes and no. It's began with the basic FASERIP premise, then I removed the Universal Table, added a d20-esque mechanic, and adjusted from there.

Nice job, Tom, I'm glad to see an update to a game that was pretty decent already. :) I definetly give kudo's to adding random character generation.

Thanks. It was something of a "Duh" moment when I thought of adding that.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
