ERA for Rolemaster

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Rolemaster is a detailed role playing game, providing the means to create all kind of characters and resolve maneuvers of any kind, all by following a consistent set of rules and tables.

ERA (Electronic Roleplaying Assistant) is the ultimate companion for Rolemaster campaigns. Just by running this free application players can create their characters using a step by step wizard, then level them up and configure all details in stats, skills and special abilities, even overriding the automatic calculations. Afterwards, they can be added to a running campaign in the adventuring module. From there, the game master can control all aspects of the game: resolve maneuvers, resistances, resting, and of course, spell casting and combat.

Players can also oversee the current status of their characters as the adventure progresses, simply by accessing the application with their mobile devices. This also allows them to check all known spells with full descriptions, current skill values and more. Inventory and game master-to-player communication also have their own systems.

Get ERA for free and try it out using the included Rolemaster Classic sample races, professions, spells, attacks and criticals.

Complete datasets for Rolemaster Unified (RMU), Fantasy Role Playing (RMFRP), Classic and Spacemaster:Privateers can be purchased from DriveThruRPG

Tutorial videos are available (see link below). For suggestions and questions, please visit the Rolemaster Software board of the ICE forums at https://ironcrown.co.uk and the era-for-rolemaster channel at the ICE Discord https://discord.gg/7fYkMHZ

ERA is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux. The character status module is also designed to be accessed from mobile devices.

Am i missing a basic how-to guide? I've got the server up and running and was able to create a 0-level character, but I can't figure out how to get to level 1 or higher, or buy skills...

I'm on Linux, and just attempted to run the script. It seems the ./ERA-RMU script needs some work as it expects x-terminal-emulator to be present, but since things are moving to WAYLAND, it's not available. Then when ran with gnome-terminal emulator, I got an error about multiple gaming groups and causing errors.

So, if the dev wants help, reach out, but as for right now, to use it, it seems to need work on Linux.

Okay, I did get it figured out on Fedora Linux with the GNOME Shell using gnome-terminal. You need to change x-terminal-emulator to...

gnome-terminal --tab -- ./Server/ERA-Server.sh RMU

Then it will use a new tab instead of a whole new window. Then it opens up on yoru web browser. I'll probably throw this up in a container and stuff too and run it on a local server.

I have found this to be a wonderful tool for updating and transferring characters to electronic format. I haven't yet used the 'Adventure' and 'Character Status' elements while running a game, but found the sharing of characters with my Pad easy to do from the laptop. The access to skill, attack and critical rolls was fine when testing, though I did find the Initiative inputs slow. It is possible to handle these manually and just use the other elements for combat.

The core bundle books and Companion for RMC were easy to load in, and I also purchased RMFRP as I use spells from this in my RM2/Classic games. I have already added races from my Creatures and Treasures book, an additional profession from RM2 companions and worked out to use and priority order the use of spell lists from both RMFRP, RMC and RMC Companion 1. Adding in characters from paper that have been used for years at first seemed a problem, until i realised i could quickly get the basic race, profession and stats in with a little editing....See more

Not sure if this helps, but they added some updated elements in Feb and Mar 22. If you have updated the main tool or added newer elements you also have to download/update all your previously installed components or it gives error messages.

I found the ERA program poorly put together.
There is no option for adding your own characters and the character generator never worked for me
The help menus did not clearly state how to use the screens so it was a lot of trial and error in getting them to work and when you get to the save it says you missed "something" but never explains what that something was
My kick at the combat screens with system pregenerated characters had no help menus and was cryptic at best
You should not have to do hours of research to work a program
I am sorry I wasted some money on the additional modules
Buy with caution

This seems quite buggy, but before I give my review I thought I'd check here in case I'm doing something wrong. I'm on Windows 10 using the latest FireFox browser. I've read the installation guide and watched the tutorial on the product page. First, there's no up or down arrow beside skills when creating the character. That took me a bit to realize. I can still click there as if the arrow buttons are there, but they are not being displayed. After creating a character, the page just loads forever. If I try to click the tabs on the bottom (Characteristics, Skills, Information, History, and Inventory) nothing happens. I can save the character and view the character sheet, but I can't do anything with it after loading it up again. When I watch the tutorial, the user just clicks on the "skills" button and can see the skills, but nothing happens for me. I'm using the RMFRP ruleset/exe. Am I doing something wrong, or does this software just not work for Windows?

Well, I would rather not install Chrome if I at all have the choice (and I do). The documentation said it was supposed to work in Fire Fox, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Since my last Windows update I am now unable to load any character sheets I was testing with, or even the two that came with it by default. I just get an error that says "SystemConfigurationFailed: Could not find category named Perceptions in group named Awareness". Sigh. I guess this product just isn't for me.

On the ICE forums it was noted that the RMU module is pretty much ready to go; they are just waiting for the publication of the RMU books to make it active.

While I do wish to support ICE, I am on a limited budget. What would you folks consider a minimum in terms of modules to purchase (Core RMSS or RMFRP whichever is current) to allow to character creation (including spells and gear?) I suppose also the Arms/Claw for combat right? Thanks!

P.S. I plan to add more as I go :)

LOL... as soon as they finish the damn thing. RMU *supposedly* queued up behind a bunch of 'important' HARP books. ICE certainly don't seem to be in a rush to get it out the door; after all it's only been a DECADE.

ERA must be installed on a Windows, Linux, MacOS, OS X or Raspberry Pi computer for the server to run. Then you can connect from any phone, tablet, netbook, notebook, tv or whatever has a browser in it.

I use Linux and the Linux install instructions appear to do nothing, I can get the windows version running under Wine but I'd much rather have it running under Linux, has anyone else got it running?, If so, how?. Some better documentation might help. Otherwise it looks good.

If you are running a 64bit Linux, you might be missing the 32bit libraries.
For example I use lib32z1, libx11-6:i386 and libgl1-mesa-glx:i386

Then you run ./ERA-RMC or ./ERA-RMFRP depending on your ruleset.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
