Warrior Prestige Archetype: The Gold Legionaire

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Gold legionaries are the heroes and exemplars of a young nation full of hope. Expressing the hope and will of their country, the gold legionnaire shapes any group he leads or joins into a coherent force for good.

Prestige Class: Golden legionnaire.
Build Class: Fighter, Ranger

Role: Above all else, the Gold Legion’s duty is security; the Legion extensively trains its soldiers in defensive tactics and strategies that ensure the protection of both the people and other members of the Legion. That said, a typical gold legionnaire exhibits audacious courage, and unflinchingly puts himself between those he protects and possible threats.

What is a Prestige Archetype?

A prestige archetype is a prestige class turned into a normal 20-level class, similar to an archetype or alternate class.

The goal when making these prestige archetypes has been to capture the flavor of the prestige class rather than to make an exact copy of how it would normally be. Attack bonuses, hit dice, class skills, spells, and class features have been unified and spread evenly over levels. This means that most prestige archetypes have their prestige abilities spread over the entire 20 level spread. Unlike how prestige classes normally work, these archetypes have a few complete class abilities rather than many abilities limited to a low level. In some cases, you get the choice of one of several class abilities rather than stymied versions of all the abilities.

A prestige archetype generally has elements of one or more regular character classes, to represent how prestige prerequisites were met and character development after the prestige class has ended. Sometimes there is more than one class that naturally leads itself to a particular prestige class, which can lead to several different prestige archetypes for different combinations. A few are not built on a regular class, instead expanding the idea behind the prestige class to a full 20 levels.

Review Challenge

I feel the golden legionnaire is an interesting take on a defensive warrior, but it sorely needs reviews. So I issue a challenge to review the golden legionnaire!

I pride myself on having become something of a specialist at making archetypes and prestige archetypes. I offer to make an archetype or prestige archetype to your specifications if you review the golden legionnaire prestige archetype.

Your review should include a rating and be 200 words or more. It must be posted here, and you must notify me so that I know you posted it. I will retain publishing rights on the archetype or prestige archetype I write, but you get to decide what it is to be about and what class(es) it is based on. Finally, I am not signing on to work forever on this; I will make an honest attempt at the project, but am not responsible for continuing to develop it indefinitely.

First come, first served. I promise to make archetypes for the first three reviewers, but may...See more

I and Sérgio discussed ways to make the golden legionnaire more compatible and competitive with casters. This is what came out of that discussion. Sérgio wasn't thrilled by the result, but here it is.

Bonded Caster
Bonded casters are warriors bonded to a spellcaster, training along with spellcasters and well able to co-ordinate to achieve synergies.

Class Information
This is a fighter archetype, a spellcaster's bodyguard and tactical warrior.

Role: Above all else, the bonded caster's duty is the security of his charge; he is a living wall between his spellcaster ally and the enemy. Beyond that, he is a tactically minded warrior able to stay alert under a barrage of spells and powers, combining his considerable might with that of his bonded caster.

Class Features
The following class features replace the fighter's bonus feats.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A bonded caster is proficient with all simple weapons and all martial...See more

We discussed no such thing. For starters, I requested a base class. Is this one? And in any case, what I actually wanted looked nothing like this. If you want to say you actually upheld your end of the deal, here, try this: prestige archetype (not "Warrior"), bard + Pure Legion enforcer.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
