Slumbering Ursine Dunes

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

Run, play or splice up 66 pages of mayhem and weirdness in this Slavic mythic-inspired (with an acid fantasy-twist) mini-sandbox for Labyrinth Lord or the well-aged fantasy rpg of your druthers.

What You Will Find Inside:
• A 25-site pointcrawl of the otherwordly Slumbering Ursine Dunes region. Beyond the big ticket adventure sites you will find along the way a Polevik-haunted rye field, a Zardoz head-living hermit, bearling pilgrimage site, antediluvian beaver engineers and other assorted madness.

• Two separate “dungeons”, the bio-mechanical, lost-in-time Golden Barge and the faction-contested Glittering Tower, with enough detail and portability to be slotted into an existing campaign.

• The Chaos Index, a dynamic events system for modeling the mythic weirdness of the Dunes. Actions of the players in the sandbox will escalate or de-escalate the levels of events.

• Four competing factions operating inside the Dunes, plus guidelines for their mutual interactions.

• Unique player classes, spells and magic items compatible with Labyrinth Lord.

• 15 new and unique monsters, many drawn from Slavic mythology (with a twist or three, naturally).

Reviews:

It's unlike any other product I've read. It's a singular Dungeon Master talking to you, another Dungeon Master, about how he ran his campaign, and how you should run his campaign based on his experience having done it already.” - Courtney Campbell, Hack & Slash

"Want a healing potion? No generic shit in this, you’ll instead be drinking the pure white soul of someone who has drowned in a pond...The treasures are great, with enough interesting bits that the party will want to keep some and be tempted by others and be horrified by others still...Much like the old MERP products, this thing describes a place and provides PLENTY of opportunities to get into trouble. (All Hail Discordia!)" - Bryce Lynch, Ten Foot Pole

“Slumbering Ursine Dunes puts the ‘sand’ in sandbox. It’s an adventure that’s sure to keep your players interested and keen to explore more. Above all else YOU GET TO PLAY AS A BEAR!” - Kiel Chenier, Dungeons & Donuts

The basic structure of SUD is a master class in faction design . . .” - Brendan S, Necropraxis

We are talking 66 pages of totally cherry-pickable awesome . . . but there’s no need to cherry-pick . . .” - Dyson Logos, Dyson’s Dodecahedron

"You truly never know what to expect; a genuine breath of fresh breath air in a sometimes stale scene. " - Corey Ryan Walden

"Slumbering Ursine Dunes' strong points are well-realised factions, two good dungeons, evocative imagery and trappings, and its pointcrawl layout, where instead of a hex or a free-form map, the set-up layouts out the various points of interest that PCs are likely to encounter along the way." - John Bell, The Retired Adventurer

Checking the preview, it says "A mini-sandbox for Labyrinth Lord Levels 2-4"

Inside a bit more info on this:
"Extensive play in the region has found that the play balance works best with parties generally numbering 4-7 player-characters with combined levels ranging roughly 12-18. Smaller or weaker parties should be encouraged to pick up hireling help."

Is there any chance the pdfs will be bookmarked or hyperlinked or both? I guessing the chance is small, but the product is so good I want to love it even more.

Our DM ran this, so this is more of a play report for a party of six 2nd level characters. The two dungeons are at the far edge of the map, right next to each other. This means that there are many wandering monster rolls, as the party travels back and forth from the town to the dungeons. After getting ripped apart repeatedly, just walking in the dunes, the party actually lost interest and quit. Maybe this module is better suited to 4th level characters. The bears are kind of cool though.

...And some of the homoerotic parts of the module might not go over very well with some players.

Thank you for indicating that there is objectionable content. I run for kids sometimes and in my opinion there is not enough of an effort in gaming by publishers to give gamers a heads up. I almost bought it, so thank you for saving me the headache of returning it.

Great product. Glad I got in on the KS. A weirdly neat mini campaign that can be dropped into your game. Also, has a few cool mechanics which can be hacked into your games; the NPC/hireling mechanic is especially cool.

I missed the Kickstarter and I'm very much looking forward to this coming to POD. Any ideas when it might become available?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
