Sufficiently Advanced is a transhuman roleplaying game of the far future.

The art for the second edition of Sufficiently Advanced is still unfinished, due to personal matters for the original artist. The game itself is complete. This low-art version will be replaced with the finished version of the game as a free update if and when all of the artwork is finished.

How on earth does a PWYW POD work? Wouldn't there be a minimum price for Lightning Source to print the thing at all?

There is indeed a minimum price, but it doesn't show up until you enter an amount into the box. For the softcover the current printing costs are $9.39, and for the hardcover it's $14.56. Anything you pay above the minimum (and shipping) is divided between DriveThruRPG/RPGNow and me via our usual percentage split.

The artist I originally had in mind, who had created a couple of nice pieces for me when I originally posted this version, became unavailable a few months later. I'm still hoping to create a full-art version some day, but it will require finding a new artist.

Method 1: Buy the PDF now (even for free) and make sure that your DriveThruRPG / RPGNow account preferences are set to allow e-mails from Valent Games. (It's under "Select how I wish to be contacted by publishers.") I'll send out an announcement when it's ready.

Method 2: I'll post a message on the game's forums at http://suffadv.wikidot.com/forum:start when things are ready. This is less reliable in that you have to go check, but it means you won't get any excess e-mails from me (not that I send a lot of them).

I wasn't able to find anything about this in the Troubleshooting or FAQ pages, so I will report this to DriveThruRPG right away. I encourage you to do so as well, using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.

Update on 1/15/15: More typo fixes and some clarifications. In addition, SA2 is now available via print-on-demand! This version (1.0.4) is the version used for POD copies.

Update on 1/1/15: Fixed several typos, altered several examples to match with the rules as written, and improved the rules for Competence Lenses (page 112). This is likely to be the version used for the POD version, coming later this month.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
