Minimalist Alternative Dungeon World Playbooks

ADD TO WISHLIST >

These are the Minimalist versions of the incredibly popular Dungeon World Alternative Playbooks by Jacob Randolph.

From the original product page:

This set of playbooks exists as an alternative to some of the classes presented in the Dungeon World core rulebook. The playbooks in this packet are replacement classes for the Cleric, Paladin, and Wizard, replacing them with the Priest, Templar, and Mage, respectively.

These three classes were specifically chosen to be replaced because of a common flaw they all share: they all carry over baggage from Dungeons and Dragons that limits or somehow weakens their ability to represent a fantasy man of the cloth, holy warrior, or kooky wizard. These new variants give you more options at the table and let you leave behind old limitations.

Included in this packet is The Artificer playbook, thrown in as a free bonus for purchasing. The Artificer was produced by the efforts of the Dungeon World forums, and the initial draft was created by TheLoneAmigo. All classes included in this pdf document are fully formatted playbooks, readily available to print and play immediately!

The Minimalist versions contain all the same content as the original, but have addressed the same issues as my Minimalist DW Playbooks. They are organized for easy use at the table, and each playbook has the basic move reference on the back page.

But Brennen, why are these playbooks more expensive than the either the DW Alternative Playbooks and the Minimalist DW Playbooks? A couple of reasons, really. One is that the content of the Alternative Playbooks took twice as long to coerce into the graceful form I'm presenting here. This is a premium product, reflecting much effort by myself and Jacob. The second reason is that I didn't want to undercut Jacob on his original product.

And it's only $5. You spent more than that on breakfast this morning. Right?

Love the format. Why are debilities missing from all the playbooks?

Awesome, thanks! A few small corrections:

"the spell takes effect, but the choose two" should say " the spell takes effect, but choose two"
"themove" should say "the move"

In the templar section, the text for "shining beacon"

Change the second option of Unrelenting to the following:
*ƒ You stay standing and will not fall. Your allies gets +1 ongoing as long as you stay standing. If you hit 0 HP, you keep going and do not take your Last Breath until you fall or your goal is accomplished, whichever comes first.

making it appear that "unrelenting" has a stray paragraph break. Should unrelenting say:

* You ignore your debilities and injuries until the moment before you accomplish your immediate goal. Until then, you
take action as if you were perfectly fine.
*ƒ You stay standing and will not fall. One ally of your choice gets +1 ongoing as long as you stay...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
