Part-Time Gods of Fate

You’ve been gifted with the spark of divinity. Will you give into the power and leave your mortal life behind? Or will you lead a double life and protect those closest to you? Choose wisely - You only have one soul. Part-Time Gods of Fate is a roleplaying game where players take the role of ordinary people imbued with the powers of a god. Balancing one's mortal and divine lives can be tricky, and divine responsibility doesn't always pay the rent.

Now Powered by Fate Core!

This is the final version for the conversion of Part-Time Gods to the Fate Core system, bringing you this unique setting with the rules system you know and love. Contains new rules like Territory Creation, Worshippers and Relics, and more! (Previously available as a Beta).

Hey, could I get some tips for a character I made?

His dominion is Sky and his Manifestations are Ruin, Minion and Journey (I... didn't know if PTGoF had the same Theology Restrictions). Got any tips for ways these could manifest? I know they are part of our imagination, but I think some starting ideas would be good as well.

Journey's an easy one to get your god some flight, first off. Minion would summon birds or possibly a cloud spirit minion. Ruin is a little tricky, but I'd probalby let it extend to lightning if a storm was already brewing or even a "if you enter the sky, you'll feel the agony of my power" to keep someone from following you as you fly away.

There's a lot of variations, though, based on your character and how THEY would use it. It's not always about what you "can" do, but about what you "will" do. There's a balance to a character in that way. That's what makes Amala one of my favorites, because he has the capacity to cause great harm as the goddess of fire, but as a doctor she maintains control so she can do no harm.

Hope that helps.

Hello.
Recently, I bought this game and I've been ready to play it. However, I'm still very new to Part-Time Gods and I don't know what would be a good 'introductory' adventure, possibly dealing with the PC(s) gaining their dominions and becoming gods in the first place.

What would be some good premises for an adventure like that?

Part-Time Gods is a game that works really well for prologues. Starting with a bit about what it's like before they become gods, playing through their transitions, and then seeing how they handle incorporating their newfound power into their lives... it's just perfect for that. The premise could be anything from the Order of Meskhenet seeing them as the chosen one's for certain sparks. It could a talent show, where each of the gods becomes the god of their best talent. Or maybe they just so happen to be in the area during a huge god battle... the sparks find new hosts when some of the gods die. That means, they could get just about any random dominion too. My first group did a fun game where we picked up a dictionary, turned to a random page, and pointed to see what word it was -- and THAT was your dominion.

If I did that right now, I'd be the god of creditors. HA!

Hey, I got a question: one thing I read that was different in Part-Time Gods of Fate is the fact that you are allowing players to make stats for their territories.

Out of curiousity: are you guys going to try and possible do that for the DGS-Lite version? Like in a later book? I just haven't played the Fate System yet and I was thinking I might want to try the original version first since I like to try unique systems that are rules light.

We have been throwing ideas around, but we haven't implemented them yet for the DGS-Lite system. As it stands, the system presented in PTGoF actually tracks pretty well back to the other system. :-)

How easy would it be to subtract the implied setting from the game, particularly the Theologies?

I ask because I'm quite interested in doing a game set with a particular pantheon, and would rather not bother with that aspect of the setting.

It's pretty easy to simply ignore the Theology Aspects that you receive, though you'll be missing out on the fun that each Theology helps create.

Hello. If you wanted to remove Theologies, you would do as Eloy said, and remove the Theology aspect, but do replace it with a generic aspect. I would recommend one from the Aspect Trio from Fate Core. You don't want to eliminate without replacing it, otherwise your characters will start with one less aspect.

That should be all you need to do.

Wish I could pick this up right now. Bad timing. Maybe it will be on special again soon (like in two weeks).

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
