MATURE READERS ONLY

It is an uncanny thought that this lurking poison is everywhere about us, ready to gain unsuspected entrance to our bodies from the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe' -Karl Vogel, 1928

In the real world, when a person becomes the victim of poison, the effects and symptoms continue for hours, some will even persist for days before killing or subsiding. The rules provided in the Player's Handbook don't really reflect this, mainly because it's just more convenient for DM's to get the poison damage over and done with to reduce the bookkeeping. A GM should do what it takes to make his own life easy, but poison is not a corner to be cut! The role-playing opportunities of agonizing symptoms and uncertainty make poison more realistic, and really is an essential (and often neglected) story-telling tool. If dramatic and imperiled gaming is your goal, it's worth it.

What do you get? You will get new playtested rules to apply symptoms and damage from real-world poisons and venoms from plants, animals, and chemicals, including rules for realistic onset and durations, dosing by size and the effects of multiple doses, additional rules for crafting and refining deadly poisons from raw materials, and lists of dozens of real poisons you know, and never knew, prepared for immediate use.

How many poisons? Over 175 real world refined toxins plus their sources! From simple plant poisons to complex fungal poisons. In addition to their venoms, descriptions and habits are provided for deadly spiders and scorpions, venomous snakes, and the poisonous animals of the sea. Household chemicals, industrial solvents, pesticides and nerve gasses are also thoroughly detailed. These deadly poisons are suitable for nearly any genre of D20 role-playing. Medieval Fantasy, Sci-fi, Space Opera, Mystery, Horror, Western, Pirate, Oriental, Egyptian, Modern Warfare, Espionage, Victorian, Super-Hero/Comic Book, Historical, Anime/Manga, the list simply grows.

Masters and players now have a one-stop poison resource, for whatever game or level they play. The best part: the entire book is open-game content!

Overall great product. There appears to be one or two nagging issues, though - I've seen some entries refer to "Mild Cardiac Failure" with no description of what that means or how to apply it in the rules. [...]

This is the first product I bought, and one of the finest made. It takes it's subject (poisons and other toxins) and gives you a humongous range of information. If a GM can't find this useful, then that GM hasn't opened it up.<br><br>< [...]

After browsing this e-book, I can't help but be amazed by the thought and research involved in pulling the entire collection together. This book gives me great options (and more importantly, ideas) as a DM trying to stay ahead of a tremendously [...]

Poisons are suddenly very dangerous. Too dangerous may be, I am unsure. A good system. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
