Nightmarket - Games of Chance

Deep in the heart of the Kaiser's Bazaar runs the Nightmarket. A disconnected bunch of cut-throats, thieves, burglars, muggers, bandits, boosters, gamblers, embezzlers, pirates, and swindlers that deal in the businesses everyone knows about, but no one wants to talk about.

Gambling is one of those businesses, and business is booming. Nightmarket - Games of Chance contains three gambling houses that operate inside the Kaiser's Bazaar (or anywhere in your game world) among the legal shops. Each one is of varying levels of prestige and safety to accommodate your style of play and to add variety to your cities.

  • THE IDLE HOUND (SECRET GAMBLING HALL): Located on a peculiarly busy side street of the Brewer's Market (See: The Kaiser's Bazaar - Book A), just off Black-Oak Way, the Idle Hound is a backdoor gambling hall that caters to a broad cross-section of the city's population. 'The Hound', as it's called by locals, isn't so much secret as it is deliberately overlooked. An elaborate network of bribery and blackmail provides the foundation for its continued existence, as does the fact that its owner is a prominent and wealthy sorcerer. A well described casino with six fantasy-inspired games of chance for your players to throw their coins at.
  • LAELIN D'ORBB (DROW SPIDER-FIGHTING): The spider-fighting games are both an ancient tradition and highly illegal bloodsport. The spider fights have long been very popular with big money gamblers, thieves, and sailors, drawing large crowds when a match is privately announced. A violent sport for only the most blood-thirsty, the Spider-Fights attract the worst sort of lowlife in town.
  • RAFF-N-RABBLEDASH (RAT RACES): Secretly tucked underneath the Main Dock at Blackwater Close, this short wooden den is slung between the sturdy dock supports behind Handsome Seret's Crab Boil. Owned and operated by the Sackheel Bunch for nearly a hundred years, in one secret hide-out or another, the 'dashes have long been a favorite pastime for the local halfling unwashed. When there's no room for horses, race what you have! New rules for animal racing!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
