BlackHammer Firearms 3
Ballistic Evolution

Written By: M Jason Parent

System: d20 Future
Progress Level: 5 / 6

From the archives of the BlackHammer Project comes the new state of the art in projectile weapon systems.

This is the third volume of BlackHammer Firearms - detailing a selection of military & paramilitary firearms that are outgrowths and adaptations of existing designs - extrapolated to the edge of the Progress Level 5 / 6 boundary.

The firearms in this document are illustrated, fully described (with full history, d20 statistics and descriptions of who uses them and why), and ready for use in a modern / future d20 campaign.

width=320="" height="145" />Although IMI stopped manufacturing the venerable and ubiquitous Uzi in 2016, other companies are still producing licensed copies... other gunsmiths are taking the old Uzi, however, and rebuilding it as a state-of-the-art submachine gun. Five different models of the SwanSong Armory Uzi retrofits are detailed - including the Uzi Support pictured above, with the attached 30mm grenade launcher - two models are illustrated. width=320="" height="113" />A Chechen reduced assault rifle, based almost entirely on the classic M-16, the Insurgent is designed for close-quarter and house-to-house fighting common in urban engagements. The weapon is very short overall, and is treated more as a large submachine gun than as an assault rifle. width=320="" height="113" />Heckler & Koch is one of the most famous manufacturers of military personal firearms in the modern age. The MP10 'slimline' subguns were developped concurrently with the BMP-9 series (below) and the UMP submachine guns. The MP10 line features a lower profile than the earlier MP-5s and UMPs and is available in a variety of calibers and two basic models. In all, 6 models of the MP10 series are described and detailed in this product, along with two illustrations. width=320="" height="113" />The Heckler & Koch BMP-9 takes the classic MP-5 line and mates it with a helical magazine, allowing for extended autofire (or 'combat endurance'). Although somewhat awkward in weight and handling, the design allows for a 42-round box magazine to be used without significantly increasing the total height of the gun. 21 models of the BMP9 series are described and detailed, along with three illustrations. width=320="" height="113" />The descendant of the Druganov SVD, one of the world's most famous sniper rifles, the Druganov PIR (Product Improved Rifle) is the new standard marksman rifle for the Russian military (in the classic 7.62x54mm chambering of the SVD) and Ministry of Internal Affairs (in the 9mmx39mm SP-6 chambering). In addition, a variety of export models are in production. 6 models of the PIR are described and detailed, along with an illustration.

If you are interested in modern or near future RPGs and need weapons, this is the book for you. Detailing a half dozen near future small arms, the book gives full stats for d20 and other ogl systems. Indeed, even if -- like me -- you don't play RPGs, [...]

In the near future games many times the guys with the best gun seem to come out victorious. The gun has always been a fascination of gamers and the near future weapons seem to be especially popular since they represent the most powerful and cutting edge [...]

A nice book of possible VERY near future weapon systems. The Tulov Insurgent seems a bit evocative of a combination of the Carbon-15 and the FN SCAR, which is actually very good; it means the authors knew what they were talking about. I also particularly [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
