The Gamemaster's Worldbuilding Journal is perfect for game designers, novelists, and especially gamemasters. Build nations, design kingdoms, explore the geography of your realms with this collection of forms, documents, and sheets created to cover all aspects of world design.

Use this tome to nicely print your notes and ideas in a clean compilation, or treat the journal as a scrapbook and write in the margins, glue in pictures, etc. It's perfect for any type of world building.

PDF Version: This version is 57 pages long  and includes a single copy of each form with no background and minimalistic design. Perfect for printing out as many copies as you want and including them in your own compilation.

PDF Version 2: This version includes the 840 page version of the print book.

PDF (form-fillable) Version: A single pdf with one of each sheet, form-fillable. Also provided is a zip folder containing each sheet as a single pdf that is form-fillable for ease of use and printing.

Print Version (standard): This massive tome is 1050 pages with decorative backgrounds and design. Divided into 12 chapters with extensive copies of the various forms, this is perfect for those wanting a high-quality print journal to transfer notes into or use to collect ideas as the form.

Print Version (premium): This massive tome is 840 pages with decorative backgrounds and design. Divided into 10 chapters with extensive copies of the various forms, this is perfect for those wanting a high-quality print journal to transfer notes into or use to collect ideas as the form.

Premium vs. Standard: The Premium Hardback is 840 pages vs. the Standard Hardback at 1050 pages. Both these books are the same size in print, although the premium is shorter by two chapters. The reason for this is that the premium uses a better quality paper that tends to be thicker. Both paper qualities are great, the standard edition just has two more chapters covering the regions (so 8 regional chapters instead of 10).

This product is systemless and perfect for any worldbuilder.

Not clear on what the 2 missing chapters are on the premium version….

The two chapters missing are blank regional chapters. Meaning in one version you have 10 regional chapters to fill in, while in the other you only have 8. You are not missing any content, you just have fewer forms of one type of content.

I accidently bought this twice
Once on my phone and then a second on my laptop.
I shrugged it off and said "if it does what I think it will do-it will be worth it."
However, I have no idea how to use the form fill pdf as I have no way of directly filling anything on the form. If someone could educate me I would greatly appreciate it.

My recommendation. Buy the $3.71 (or less bundled) PDF and checkout what you get in a printed tableau version. The printed version makes a great "notebook". I say notebook in quotes, because it needs its own reinforced shelf to hold it. If I were to make any feature recommendation -- a single chapter 7.5" x 9.75" and cut down to somewhere near (but less than) 200 pages. Something that could lay flat without stressing the binding with repeated use. This is so massive that you feel like anything you record like a journal is ultimately etched in stone.

We have a 200-page version going up for a lot of these various journals in the next few days. It is the same size as the retail versions going out to stores, so I agree, a smaller version will fit those looking for something a bit more shelf-friendly.

Just asking /throwing it out there, in a future update to the pdf files for the individual (single) forms will you be removing the page numbers? When printing extra forms or rearranging the composition of the work as a whole, the duplicate sets of page numbers and the few that appeared to be out of order kinda make the point of the print as many copies of the sections you need seem...hindered by minor aesthetic inconsistency. Since they are form fillable perhaps making the page numbers forms as well to allow custom numbering. And thank you for your time saving and helpful product.

No idea, we have never password protected any of our books. I can double check the files. . . but I don't think it's on our end.

I have just recently purchased this and have the same issue, it asks for a password if you attempt to edit. I have tried the workaround but it doesn't work.

Love the product, though I wish with the form fillable pdf files there were no page numbers listed. Also the Random Encounter form fillable page, next to Location: Should be a fillable box.

When I update a page in the form fillable pdf I can't save it in the pdf. Admittedly the acrobat version I'm using is very out of date, ver. 10.1.3. Is it designed to be unsavable, or is it an adobe acrobat issue?

You know what would make the print version useful to me? If you could take the forms I fill out and print them as a book for me. My hand writing is terrible. I can probably get it done myself at Lulu, and possibly here.

Form-fillable PDFs generally can't be combined together, or printed-to-PDF separately so that they can later be joined. As far as I know, what you are looking for isn't currently possible.

Are there any plans to do a bundle of these builder/planner titles? Would love to see all the titles in this line bundled together so I could purchase them all at once. Are there plans for any other titles along these lines?

We will eventually bundle them together, but most likely not a for awhile. We have a Universe design journal being worked on for sci-fi fans, as well as a few of our smaller journals planned for fantasy GMs.

Hoping you guys eventually release a Universe design journal. I have been using fantasy styled forms for years, that were designed for 3.5 D&D, to run Traveller, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

Aww, what a bunch of BS. I thought it was going to be like the old 2nd edition World Builder's Guidebook, but it's just a collection of forms. How did you arrive at the number 840 as a page count? To pad the book and make it look like the WBG? Total ripoff. No need to pay $5, any competent DM or author can do this themselves.

Sorry for your confusion. We felt the description and video clearly showcased what this product is, not to mention the reviews. As for your actual question, 840 pages is the largest book at the premium quality we can print, we padded the standard up to 1050 pages. We did not do this to "look like the WBG" but figured if a competent GM wanted a print journal for his world creation, it needed to be large enough to fit their world.

I for one found this useful for collecting thoughts on paper in a much more organized way. Sure I could have done all this myself but this product has everything outlined nicely with different suggestions and honestly things I hadn't considered. Combine this with their other books in this series and great resources.

I wonder about the quality of the binding on such a large book. Also, how well does it stay open when one is going to write or draw in it?

My own copy sits open well, both types, and I can easily write in it. The spine seems strong and like it will last, but of course that depends on how you treat the book and handle it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
