Oasis of Koessa

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Oasis of Koessa is an adventure set on the Seventh Circle of Hell, the Desert of Fire, can be used as a projection of Hell into the Material Plane, or it can be used as an enchanted location in any remote hot desert.  It can represent any of nine Oases found in the Desert of Fire.  The Oasis is a dangerous and challenging location suitable for challenging higher-level Adventurers.  The non-linear location contains eight significant structures which can be explored in any order, each with different challenges and opportunities.  The centerpieces are the two large Pyramids and the dungeon inside a Sphinx statute.

Oasis of Koessa is completely compatible with the Spellbook Games’ epic game module, Journey through Malebolge, and the four Gazetteers of Hell, which together describe the complete Hell of Dante.

Oasis of Koessa is written for Spellbook Game’s Portal to Adventure RPG rule set, but can be used essentially as-is with First Edition Dungeons and Dragons or any similar rules.  Games Masters using 3.x, Fourth Edition or Fifth Edition, or any similar rules will have significant conversion work.  55 pages plus Denizens.

Despite the blurb, this cannot be used "essentially as-is" with AD&D. About the only game mechanic in common is monsters hit dice.

Armor Class is different, apparently going to 70 or more and seemingly stopping damage. Hit points are different, many NPCs only have 2 or less hp per hit die. Saving throws are apparently actually like 5e, based on ability scores (which again, are different from the standard D&D type and also seemingly on a different scale from 3 to 18). Spells, classes, and magic are different.

That said, it's not a bad module. Just a note that you can't use it as is, you'll have to stat up all the monsters in this (most of which are not D&D monsters, either)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
