The Great Game

Developed by John R Davis & Mike Galer

(Dogs Dinner Games)

Based on The Black Hack by David Black

The Great Game adds in political intrigue as a motivating theme. Bribery, corruption, espionage, perjury, sabotage and terrorism are all thrown into the mix of your Jack Hack gaming

The Jack Hack is an OSR inspired game using the Black Hack system by David Black. A copy of the Black Hack is needed to play the Great Game & The Jack Hack

(The Jack Hack is a game of trying to beat the odds in the depravity of late Victorian London. It has particular focus on the Whitechapel area just before, and around the time of the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.)

CAUTION: By its very nature this game features somewhat adult themes. There is Victorian Profanity.

This add on features:

2 new classes:

·         The Gutter Monger. A once respectable journalist now peddling titillation and squalor.
·         The Mounter. A snitch and blag who life is built on a pack of lies.

The Rest of the book is ‘Welcome to London's Hotbed of Intrigue’ and contains lots of random stuff to see, to plot and to inflict on others!

-There is a brief discussion on how new technologies such as airships, telegrams and moving pictures can help you peddle misery and exploitation.

-Stats and descriptions of 12 Victorian Firearms and 6 Explosives you may wish to use.

-About 20 antagonists with stats.

Random tables to generate:
d8 Clever people you may wish to find.
d20 buildings you may wish to target.
d8 chemistry advances to help you poison someone.
d6 publications to send message and ciphers.
....and more tables on information to listen out for, the latest military technology and others.

There is also a three part adventure generator to allow you to create on the fly Who? Why? and How? the deed will be carried out.

There are a number of more detailed bullet point adventures and half a dozen photographs and diagrams of important places.

In Development: Future add-ons for the Jack Hack include
:

Dead London, wherein our rogues have to contend with Invaders from Mars and the Rise of Steampunk!

Carved in Flesh. Which looks at each Whitechapel murder in turn, with added conspiracy/theories linked to a big event nearby at the time (a freak show, an ecclesiastical gathering, etc).

Ripper Fhtagn. Five bodies within an elder sign?. Dark horror including a light sprinkling of mythos, penny dreadful and gothic.

My third review for the extremely fun and challenging Jack Hack line. You will need the Black Hack and the Jack Hack to use this. This supplement brings in espionage and conspiracy to the regular gutter crawl of the Jack Hack. The Sherlock Holmes movie [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
