System Overview

The Sigil System is the heart of Stormforge Productions and is the base of all our products, from The Runed Age to Z-LAND to all our future products.

It's a gritty and lethal system meant to put all your skills to the test in order to succeed.

The core of the Sigil System is a simple d100-roll-under system that utilises only 20 Skills. No need to worry about talents, traits, attributes, and all that carry on. Anything you can think of doing can be done with these 20 Skills (and a further 4 potential specialisations within each Skill). This makes both playing and GMing very easy as there general mechanic that you need to worry about, whether it comes down to combat, social encounters or even exploration. And with our modular Modifiers Tables, you make your games as narrative or granular just as you want them to be.

Next up is our realistic Wound System. With Hit Locations for the entire body and different severities of Wounds possible, every round combat and every fight will be putting you on the edge of your seat as one wrong move can put out of the encounter, the session, or even the entire game! Combat in the Sigil System is gritty and real where death awaits around every corner. You will have to use all your wits in order to survive, but that is what makes success sweeter.

Through our Character Creation system you will discover everything there is to know about your character. Not only will you create your character's skills but also their backstory, the personality and their most important contacts. The Party Creation will also help your party discover what holds them together, what threatens to break them apart and how they met in the first place.

QUICK START GUIDE

We've also included a Quick Start Guide that condenses the most important rules of the Sigil System down to less than 4 pages. So if you (or someone in your group) have never played the Sigil System before, or any tabletop RPG for that matter, then this is the perfect way to get up to speed on how to play the game, and leave the finer details to your GM and the main corebook.

Sigil Story Journal

Keep track of everything that has happened in your campaign with the Story Journal. Each session gets one sheet to fill out, and you build up your journal as your campaign goes on. Revisit and remember all the sessions in the campaign by leafing through your journal, and bring new players up to speed by letting them have a quick read through it. Never forget anything again with the Story Journal by your side.

GLYPH

If d100 isn't your cup of tea, fear not for we have translated the Sigil System down into a quick d20 format. Head on over to the GLYPH system to see the Sigil System' smaller, leaner brother.

Hi Izak T

How do you mark the damage in the Character Sheet? For Serious Wound in the Severity Table, shall I mark all the slot beginning the Serious Wound down to the Minor Wound? I can not find in the Rulebook to clarify that.

Thanks ahead.

Pages 77 and 78 of the version 5 also has problem with the alignments.

Have you considered to include the temperature effects like cold, etc found in the Z-Land?

You're a scholar and a gentleman! Thanks for spotting those. Looks like the update to the newest InDesign pushed some things around on a couple of pages.

As to the environment-type effects, we are working on an exploration/survival mod for the Sigil System that will feature those elements from Z-LAND as well as quite a bit more.

In the first paragraph on page 16, under Wound Repercussion, while you already clarified this in our previous emails/discussions, is there a way we could make this rule more specific?

I have 2 suggestions:

1.) Injury modifier of the same wound severity do not stack.
or
2.) Only one injury modifier of the same wound severity is counted in a hit location.

But again, it is to your decision. Thanks.

Hate to be a stalking critic here, but did you ever check the Character Sheet on page 91 in version 1.5?

Hi, a very nice game about the d100 system without being really THE d100 system ;)
The Wound system is a little bit confusing, but I understand the logic here ; it's just not very well explained.
If I may :
- There are 3 type of Wounds in every Hit location: Minor, Significant and Grevious.
- Every Hit Location has one Minor slot, one Significant slot and one Grevious slot, but could have more slots for each type of Wound.
- Every Skill began at 30%, but at Character Creation, you could have a better %.
- The Constitution skill give you the number of different slots of Wound you could have in each Hit Location... well sort of ; in fact you're shifting each level of the type of Wound every time. See after.
- Use the tens digit of the Constitution skill (3 if you have 30%, 40% if you have 40%, and so on).
- So if you have 30% in Constitution, you will have in each Hit Location, one Minor Slot, one Significant slot and one Grevious slot.
- If you have 40% in...See more

Hello Laurent L,

Have you tried determining the damage on a specific body location with only 30 Constitution skill using the character sheet found on the Rulebook and the v1.2?

Hi Petterson,
Sorry i didn't understand your reply ; english is not my native tongue.

The box with 30, 40, 50 and so on, indicate the number of type of wound slot you have in a location ; they are not Hit Points.
If you have 4O in Constitution just take the digit in your mind (here 4) and it's the number of wound slot you have in a location : 1 Minor, 1 Significant, 1 Grievous and 1 more Minor.
As you can see, the first Minor, Significant and Grevious Wounds are on the 30 box because everybody begins with 30% in Constitution ; the second Minor wound is on the 40 box, as in my exemple.

When you're are hit, look at the Wound Severity table (p15 of the book) and see what kind of Wound you will check on your Character Sheet ; it's not damage points as in other rpg. You just check Minor, Significant or Grievous.
And that's all.

Cheers.

@Laurent L,

1.) If your character has the Constitution of 40 (as per your example), you will have 1 Minor, 1 Significant, 1 Grievous point, and 1 extra Minor wound. If the character receives 20 points of damage, what wound will that be (Minor, Significant, or Grievous)?

2.) If your character has the Constitution of 40 (as per your example), you will have 1 Minor, 1 Significant, 1 Grievous point, and 1 extra Minor wound. If the character receives 20 points of damage, and another 15 points of damage, what wound will that be (Minor, Significant, or Grievous)?

I asked the above 2 questions so I can determine the penalty to that body part when being used.

Again, you check damage to the table page 15 and see what kind of wound it is.
"When a character gets hit, the specific Hit Location gains a Wound. To determine the severity of a wound, simply look at the result of your roll.
Whatever you rolled is the damage you inflicted. If your opponent did an Opposed Roll to yours, subtract the result of their roll from yours to see what the final damage is, (e.g.: if you rolled a 30 and the opponent rolled a 20, your damage is 10).

In your exemple :
1)20 points of damage is a Minor Wound.
2)20 points of damage is a Minor Wound. if you get 15 points more, as you see in the table, it's still another Minor Wound. In this exemple, you just check the two Minor wound you have. Because your two Minor wound have been used, the next damage will go directly to the Significant wound.

That's all.

The game is promising, only that it is confusing, specially the character sheet and the wound resolution.

I hate to say the rules were poorly explained (even if you get the chance to buy the Z-Land and the Runed Age) and the work is a cram. Since 1.3.1 update to 1.4, the archetype was right there hanging until I pointed it out. Well, that's what every fan ought to do to help the game up, right? However, what the author did was to replace that section with Skill Array, which I think was a last minute fill up to keep 1.4.1 seems up to date. Less explanation or sample. Good if you are experieced player, but how about you are just getting into the game?

Another fuss is the rules on wound and the how the character sheet was made. Quite confusing because as the rules stated that for every wound level received, the ability check gets a corresponding penalty specially when hit twice on that same location. a Significant and a Grievous wound all together can get you -25 on the roll. Well, that...See more

Hi Petterson, I apologize for not being able to reply to your email sooner (which was sent 36 hours ago). My six week old daughter has been in quite a state after getting her first vaccinations yesterday and I've had little chance to do anything but care for her. I'm always happy to help clear up any confusion that any player might have, and I do want to say a big thank you for helping spot some errors that were in the game. You were an amazing help with that. If you do want to pick up our conversation again, I'm more than happy to continue on email, or you can have a chat on our Discord with other players who could offer their perspectives as well. All the best, and have a happy Christmas. Izak.

We have pressures in life too Izak, myself included. But by doing business (making games for sale), you need to find a way to notify your customers. A short notice of getting back soon won't eat up 5 minutes of the 36 hours time! What frustrates a buyer is being left hanging and not knowing what to do with a faulty product sold to him.

Worst, of all the possible business related reasons, why point out your personal (medical) condition? Are you trying to paint me a bad picture here for stressing out a product issue that needs to be fixed?

That being said, I won't stoop down to your level.

By the way, there concerns that i would like to raise up:

1.) Will there be a possibility to upgrade the layout images from raster to vector, like the text, etc...?
2.) The cover says version 1.2, but the content is 1.3. Kinda' confusing.
3.) the Character Sheet in the 1.3.1 is blurred, need to use the attached character sheet to get hold of a good copy.

Overall, I love it. Can't wait to see the version 1.4.

How do you use specialisations? And at what level do they start if you purchase them? Like say I have fight 50 and take "one handed sword fighting" as a specialisation, does that mean I also have 50 in "one handed sword fighting" and add 50+50 as a modifer? I don't really get it tbh.

Specialisations work like regular skills, except that they level up twice as fast. When you pick a specialisation, it starts off at the level you get it. So if you take "One handed sword fighting" at level 50, then that specialisation will be level 50. It doesn't get added to the base skill's level.

So their not getting added to their "parent" skill like for example "Spec: One Handed Swords 50 + Fight 50 = 100". Basically "One Handed Swords" is it's own fight skill, the only benefits it has are that it's a unique skill and that it's able to level up twice as fast, right? Also what about inflicting damage, is weapon damage just bonus damage? For example:

Karen’s character Cassandra and William’s
character Gerrit were in a shootout.
• Cassandra shot Gerrit and successfully hit
him.
• Karen rolled a 23 which is under her
Modified Skill Level.
• William rolled 35 above his Modified Skill
Level .
• Since William rolled over his Skill Level,
Karen adds together the results.
• 23+35=58.

Do I add to the end result of 58 now my weapon damage? Let's say 30 so it would be 88 damage in the end? (Which would destroy the hit location)

Yes to both. You add the weapon damage onto the result of your combat skill check, just like you showed.

A fantastic system! Somewhat similar to BRP, but that's probably because it's a D100 system as well.

I spotted a contradiction in version 1.3 (1.2?) though, on the cover it says 1.2, but on the first (Or second) page it says 1.3. Nothing game-breaking, just confused me for a second.

Quite a lot, really. We've added in a few new skills and taken others out. We've created a new Contacts system to make it a bit more narrative and roleplay-based rather than just a skill roll. We've changed how the base roll resolution works (now you need to roll as high as possible while still under your skill level). We've added in some weapon stats and ranges. And there's plenty more in Sigil 1.2.

After I posted my previous question, I downloaded the updated version and found that the section on Realms (i.e. sample settings) been taken out; the new file is only 76 pages even though the product description still says 143 pages. Why did you do that?

Good catch on the page numbers! We forgot to update that on the product description. We decided to move away from the Realms and instead opted to go with adding in content as Mods for the system. This allows us to keep the corebook trimmed down to just the essentials needed to play, and the GM can add in each mod as he feels its appropriate. The Realms were always meant as a preview for the settings we would make in the future, so we would have removed each individual realm as we made the proper setting. With Z-LAND on the horizon, we would have removed it anyway, so we thought we might as well take the opportunity to move all the rules in the Realms over to the Mods. That way, we can provide updated and expanded rules while not keeping it to any one setting.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
