ALERT! ALERT! PREMATURE LANDING!

You groggily come back to consciousness after a long cryosleep. Your ship’s warning system is telling you the ship has entered the atmosphere of a planet and is about to crash land under autopilot. Crawling to a seat, you buckle in, joining your fellow astronauts as you quickly check instrument readings.

Through the cockpit window you see a barren, desolate landscape flashing by. The ship skims a large lake before coming to a stop just off the pebble shore. The computer indicates that there is a breathable atmosphere, and after gathering survival packs the crew exits the ship.

“Where are we?” you ask each other, as everyone wades to the shore seeing a wasteland with little vegetation.

“Which planet is this? We must have gone off course on our return from Alpha Centauri.”

Then there is the sound of hoof beats, adding to the disorientation. Hoof beats? Are we on Earth?

Around an embankment comes several riders bearing rifles. As they approach, the sun glares in your eyes and a shot fires; a companion to your left falls to the ground holding his stomach. A large rider stops in front of you, momentarily blocking the sun and providing a clear look at his face.

“An ape! We’re on a planet ruled by apes!”

Apes Victorious is a roleplaying game in which you take the role of an astronaut from the 1970’s who finds himself marooned on a future Earth ruled by intelligent apes. Players may also take the role of an ape, a degenerated human, or a psi-active underdweller. Fight to survive in this post-apocalyptic future ruled by four species of apes. Or play apes who hunt humans for sport. For a different kind of campaign, play highly intelligent but insane underdwellers who have advanced technology and powerful psi powers.

This book contains:

  • A complete game
  • A post-nuclear apocalyptic setting in which apes have become the dominant species
  • Seven player classes
  • Animals and creatures of the post-nuclear future
  • Campaign advice
  • A complete introductory adventure
  • Conversion notes for compatible games including: Labyrinth Lord, Mutant Future, Starships & Spacemen

How hard would it be to add in humans who are more like the ones features in the POTA TV Series?

Not hard at all, as they're discussed on page 88 under "Intelligent Humanoids". The box on that page discusses subservient and serf-like humans as seen on the show, in fact!

There was some technical glitch and the files were not sent to be verified until today, but they are with the printer and I should be able to order proof copies within the next few days.

Found some more errors:

On the Male Names chart in the Ape names section the name Drusus is given for both 32 & 33.

Name 82 is guven as Theron. Not sure if that is an error given the Theron/Therun error in the Ape Settlements section in the description of the Sample Map.

In the Random Envounter Checks section it refers to the Dangerous Encounters section when it ought to refer to the Dangerous Evolution section for encounter tables and that section has no encounter tables in it.

Also, a quick question, Where is the final anagram word in the book?

Noticed an error in the book. I mentioned this on the Goblinoid Forms, but figured i'd mention it here too.

Sample Map Error - Theron or Therun

This ape settlement is spelled Theron in the text but Therun on the hex map. What is the correct name for the settlemen? I'm suspecting it is Therun which is an anagram for Hunter., a reference to actress Kim Hunter.,

Also, for those who are wondering what is up with this anagram stuff:

.
Shairron = Harrison (actress Linda Melson Harrison) - Nova/Woman in cart in 2001 remake
Seaton = Heston
Letonrach = Charleton (actor Charton Heston) - Taylor/Zaius in 2001 remake

Hi, the game uses the same roll low d20 system as S&S. It also has the same Saving Throws as S&S. It doesn't have the same skill system based on class as S&S. There are conversions for mutant future and S&S and are very simple. There should be a no art version of the game to download up on the Goblinoid Games website in the near future so you can give it a glance before purchasing.

The now art version can be downloaded. I read the full version last night and it does work very well with Mutant Future. I do recommend that you have Mutant Future along with it as it didn't cove some stuff that is in Mutant Future book that your going to want rules, etc. for to use in it.

Adventure wise it does Return To The Planet of the Apes type games very well. (If you haven't see that El Rey Network is currently showing the episodes of the series every Saturday morning.)

Compared to the other 2 RPGs that had rules for Planet of the Apes type games it is the easiest to play and get players into.

The other RPGs if your wondering that did cover Planet of the Apes games were FGU's Aftermath! and Eden Studios 'Terra Primate. All 3 handle some Planet of the Apes stuff a bit better than the others if your trying to emulate a specific time period of the Planet of the Apes or a particular film, comic, etc.

I'll try and do a full review in the future and point...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
