Magic flows like an invisible river, wending across the landscape. Most cannot see the ley lines; but to you, trained in the arts of geomancy, they blaze as glowing torrents of energy, pulsing bands of light, glittering strings. This power, the power of the land itself, is yours to draw upon.

Deep Magic: Ley Lines brings the secrets of ley line magic into your 5e campaign, featuring:

  • Random tables for the effects of weak, strong, and titanic ley lines on your spells, as well as ley line backlash
  • Two new feats—Ley Initiate and Ley-Bound—and a new Geomancy arcane tradition
  • Using ley lines in the Midgard Campaign Setting
  • 15 new spells, including ley storm, land bond, ray of life suppression, volley shield, and more!

The wise see the world as it truly is: a shimmering net of flowing magic. Plunge your hands into its torrents, and charge your spells with unfathomable power!

Ley Disruption seems really bad. During playtesting it's effects were nullified by just... getting up. Second level, and all it really does is difficult terrain. Entangle does it better. The prone knockdown happens at the start of something's turn, so it just immediately gets back up, nullifying any point of prone even happening. The only way something would stay prone is if it used over half it's movement to enter Ley Disruption in the first place, and it even gets a save against that effect. It should be at the end of it's turn, like Grease (an entire spell level below it) gets to do. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Matt! This is a bit of a delayed response to you, but I have previously passed along your questions/feedback regarding Ley Disruption and the Ley Line Savant feature to the developer, along with some wording changes to LLS, and some possible mechanics changes to Ley Disruption. They might be incorporated into the upcoming Midgard Heroes Handbook, but I'm not certain.

In the meantime, here are my thoughts on what you've brought up:

Ley Line Savant has a total range of 1 mile. Suggested rewrite:

"Additionally, as an action you can sense the presence of ley lines within 1 mile. You know the direction to every ley line within range, as well as the intensity of and distance to the closest ley line."

This lets you functionally find multiple ley lines within range, previous wording only ever made it feasible to find one (it's always the closest until you randomly walk toward another one).

For Ley Disruption, it wasn't intended as a "lockdown"...See more

Hey Dan, I appreciate the reply. One last thing, and this is a big one - The actual leyline tapping at the start of the book makes no proclamation of when you can choose to actually tap leylines and infuse your spell (and thus make the Arcana check) during the spellcast. Before you declare you're casting a spell? After you declare it, but before you pick which spell? After you pick which spell, and which spell level you want to cast it at?

The feature of tapping your spell with ley energy and getting to roll on the table goes from useful to useless depending on your interpretation. We've argued whether saying 'I want to cast magic missile, and infuse it with ley magic' is the intended use, or what have you, because then when they get a feature that is useless for that spell.. well.

We've gone about it this way at the table: You have to declare you're casting a spell, and at what level. But not which spell. So "I'm going to cast a spell at level 3 and roll for ley magic". They...See more

Sorry for the delay, I don't get notifications on comments, otherwise I would've gotten back to you much sooner! In the future, if you have any questions I'm on Twitter @dan_dillon_1, or you can email me at dandillon1@gmail.com.

That said, my intention is you decide which spell you're casting, and during the casting you decide to tap the ley line (So: "I cast magic missile, and tap the ley line for power!"). It's possible you could get an effect that isn't particularly useful for that cast, which is why locking a ley line is such a useful feature. Always get the effect you want, so you know on which spells to risk tapping!

That said, do whatever works for your table to give your group the best experience. If it works better for you to choose to tap, see what happens, then apply to energy to whatever spell you wish, do it! Tell 'em I said it was cool if anyone tries to give you crap for it. ;)

RE: Ley Line Savant

"Additionally, you can sense the presence of ley
lines within 1 mile. As an action, you can discern
the intensity of the nearest ley line and the
direction and distance to it."

Is the discerning that you do with an action limited to the 1 mile distance? Or can you sense the closest leyline regardless of distance?

Does tapping a ley line (p.4) require a bonus action or does it occur in the same action as the actual spell cast?

Hello Christopher! Tapping a ley line to augment your spell is part of the same action used to cast the spell when you're within range of a ley line. You must make the choice when you cast the spell, but there is no other additional action or bonus action required!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
