TECH? NO! Forget about expensive game systems, emulators, disconnected online games, and high-priced yearly roster updates. TECHNO BOWL takes everything you love about arcade and video game football classics like Tecmo Bowl, NFL Blitz, and Madden and puts it all on the tabletop.

And as if that isn’t cool enough, it also gives you a feature that gamers have long asked for but never gotten… until now! What is it, you ask? As a coach in TECHNO BOWL, you will design your own formations and plays. That’s right. Let me say it again. You get to design your own formations and plays on the fly!

MODES: There are five different modes of play. Each of these brings a different experience to the table.

  • TECHNO is 7-vs-7 with no skills and no field goals.
  • ALL TECHNO is 7-vs-7 with skills but no field goals.
  •  INFERNO! It’s ALL TECHNO with more awesome and fire!
  • PRO is 8-vs-8 with no skills but includes field goal rules.
  • ALL PRO is 8-vs-8 with skills and field goal rules.

Each of these modes offers a completely different game experience. There are even rules for solo play and 4 player variants!

MAD SKILLS: When playing in modes that utilize special skills and abilities, coaches will have access to three types of players:

  • IMPACT
  • STAR
  • SUPERSTAR

These players will come equipped with one or more of the 26 skills found in the game. That count of 26 skills doesn’t even include core fundamentals or INFERNO MODE specific skills.

The team guide includes player and skill listings for all 32 MORE FUN! LEAGUE teams!

Hi, sorry if I missed some obvious information but: Which files would I need at a minimum to start playing? Just this one? This one and the Pixel Block Players? Or do I need at least one of the card packs, too? Does it depend on which of the modes I want to play or do they all need all the equipment?

Thanks for any advice!

I just got this game, and after having read the rules, was so excited I immediately went looking to buy the physical version, but couldn't find it on the web :-( The nearest I could find was the card packs, I ordered 2 of those to give me 8 teams to start with. Had to get them from the USA, and payed a lot of postage .Most of the rest, I can sort out, I have a decent Laser printer, and a 3D printer for making the benches to hold the cards. I can also use my 3D printer for making the various cubes needed. The only thing I'm not sure of is the playing field, how big is it supposed to be? My laser printer isn't big enough to print it out all in one piece - I can do A4 max, is there a tiled version available somewhere? Alternatively, I'm thinking of seeing if a print shop can make me a full size copy, and have it laminated, but I still need to know what size it should be printed at.

I'm looking forward to making up a physical version, and introducing it to my regular gaming friend, who is also a fan of...See more

Got the game and it looks great! I'm currently playing (and losing) a solo game, but I have a question: Hand-offs and picking up a loose ball, for examples, can be done as part of a move action. Is a half move (from a partial success) a "move action", allowing me to make a hand-off or pick up a fumble? What about the free, follow-up move from a successful block?

Thanks!

On a half move, you can perform any action that does NOT require a skill check. That means that hand-offs and grabbing loose balls are both perfectly legal. Neither are allowed on the free follow-up from a successful block and/or reversal.

Seems very fun, I'm excited to try it out. I am confused on a few parts of the rulebook, though. What are scouting cards? And what about the section about drafting, are there rules/guidelines for that anywhere?

There are two scouting cards per team- one for each coach. The scouting cards are a quick reference for the skills of the impact, star, and superstar players. You already know if a player has special skills just by looking at the jersey number. You can then refer to the cards for a reminder if you're not sure what they can do. You can see an example of the cards here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1544172954/techno-bowl-arcade-football-unplugged-0/posts/1752586

The drafting and league rules will be released at a later date. The file here will be updated for free!

In reviews, I've seen a recurring theme of "I don't like sports games, but..." or "I don't like American football, but...". Now I haven't had a chance to play yet, but from reading the rules and watching demo games, I think that I have to agree. This seems like something special. I'm very excited for this game. I don't even have anybody to play it with yet. I'll have to go find somebody. :)

Thanks Jason! I can't wait for you [and the rest of the world!] to get to take it for a spin. If you can convince someone to just run a single play with you, I think you'll have yourself a regular opponent. You could always travel to Florida to play against me and some of my local playtesters. :)

Not quite yet! We are currently in the process of doing the final testing on the Pledge Manager, so it won't be long now. There are over 100 unique data points that have to be entered and tested since we are using customized shipping rates so it's a little labor intensive.

I just remembered this game (while playing a game of Rogue Planet) and was wondering what the status is now? I placed a pre-order. Are things in production or something?

Thanks!

The games for distribution in the US and Canada just arrived in port a couple of days ago! It should take about 5-7 days to offload everything and clear customs, and a few days after that the games will begin shipping.

All I have is the game play from the video to base it on, but this looks like a really solid, fun game. What I would like is to be able to buy this as a regular old board game, like in a box or something.

How likely is that, or can you suggest an alternative?

Hi Jason! It's very likely.

If you follow me on the game's page on BoardGameGeek.com, my website, and/or the Kickstarter page, you'll get an alert when the preorders go live at the beginning of the year. Not only that, but you can learn a lot more about the game, the teams, and check out some more videos and reviews. Hope to see you then!

I'd also love to get the physical game since I missed the KS.

Will the retail boxes also have the KS upgrades? Such as the cloth play mat, card stands, and extra teams?

Edit: Sorry, just saw your more recent post regarding components. Nm.

Any chance the field can be done as a full size multiple page pdf file? Much easier than trying to resize the jpg imo. I am planning on attaching it to some foam board.

I'll look into it Mark! There's definitely a chance, but there are a few other things that have priority right now. On a related note, you will be able to order it on a rubberized cloth playmat very soon.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
