Got my hardcover in the mail yesterday. Every bit as worth as any other one book design on the market. No shortage of OSE or other terms for more of the same ole BECMI clones out there, this one is a nice take on the usual experience.

D6 covers more than one genre, but I'm happy to have grabbed up D6 Fantasy.

The developer passed and the license has gone to IP Limbo. Real shame. The Fantasy Flight SW game basically uses a picture version of the same dice mechanic showing how relevant the system still is. Someone needs to step up and resurrect this awesome system. This is a senseless tragedy.

Yeah, I'd like to know about that grey background update too. Judging by the number of reviews this is a great game but only an ok seller at best. Don't let it die. Give it some support. Sell it if you can't afford it.

Did the pdf end up getting that grey background removed?

Isn't this game freely available? Why is it on here with a price tag?

I grew up with d6 Star Wars and always liked how the system was easy to learn while also being quite versatile. I do wish WEG had published more sourcebooks though (premade spells, etc.) but unfortunately they are now defunct. I hope someone takes their banner forward...in a sea of d20 rpgs, this one is very refreshing.

Was this ever updated? my file still shows the last update as 2006. I see notes on here that it would be updated to help out with the awful gray background. I see yall updated Space, but what about Fantasy?

OMG Roll For Initiative guy!? Thats's awesome!

Well from what I understand they're hard at work for making a second edition to the d6 series. So it's possible they may not see the need update a book that's about to be out of date.

I agree the gray background is just awe full, even more so if you have the physical book, can't read anything. I also would have preferred better artwork, or at lest more relevant artwork to the material around it.

They're about to debut their Zorro RPG this December which will showcase the new d6 system. It should give a sneak pick as to what to expect.

What races are in this, and how does this compare to Savage Worlds?

The 4 they include are Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, and Reptile folks, but making a race is as easy as building a bonus/penalty package and saying go, and is a bit more varied than Savage Worlds.

I love Savage Worlds. To compare the too, SW is a little lighter on rules and more emphasis on being quick, while this system has a few more rules and a more robust dice mechanic that allows for more variance in character skill and accomplishment, but at the cost of being a bit more complex. That's not a knock against either system, as I enjoy both. This is well worth checking out however, while Savage Worlds is currently undergoing revisions for the new edition (I think due in April 2019 to be entirely completed)

Just downloaded this and was getting ready to print it out, when I made two disappointing discoveries. First, the PDF is formatted as two columns of very small print on 8.5 x 11" pages, making it unsuitable to print in booklet format for binding with staples, saddle-stitch style. So I'll have to print the pages full-size, three-hole punch them, and use a binder. Annoying, but livable. Second, virtually every page has a gradiated, gray screen behind the text, massively increasing the amount of ink or toner used in printing. I didn't write this as a negative review, because it's not a criticism of the game or game system--I'll write a game review if and when I've actually read the book and played the game. But the fact that the rulebook PDF hasn't been optimized at all for print-and-play use may delay my doing so, perhaps indefinitely. (I realize that the game was free, so I shouldn't expect too much to be done converting the printed book into a printable PDF, but that gray screen is very dismaying.)

Jeffrey,
That download is a file from 2006. Now that WEG has changed hands in 2016, a new file will be uploaded soon. Give us a bit more time as in the absence of an original file we had to start from this same PDF.

The promptness of this response is amazingly encouraging! I noticed the date on the file after I printed it out (and yes, I did print it out after all), and concluded that what I was looking at was a product that was essentially unsupported for the past decade, which had probably lingered on DriveThru as an essentially historical archive. As I mentioned, I put this in the discussion section, rather than framing it as a review, because I didn't want to harm the game's review rating with comments that were specifically aimed at the PDF formatting.

As I said, I did print it out full-size, and three-hole-punched it for a binder. I find this to be a tremendously inconvenient way to read a book, especially if I'm reading it on a commuter train, but I do want to read the rules. If you are reformatting the book for a new edition, please consider including a printer-friendly version without screen behind the text. If you can use a font in the printer-friendly version large enough that it is legible when printed...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
