A Baker's Dozen of Inhabited Worlds

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In a science fiction setting, new worlds to explore are often needed, especially if players go off the beaten track. This supplement describes thirteen new inhabited worlds, including an asteroid and a double planet, that can be dropped into a game. The worlds are all described in a system-agnostic manner, enabling them to be used with any system.

The worlds are primarily terrestrial in nature, although even these can have oddities such as extreme orbits, but as well as the asteroid there is also an ice world, a scorched planet and one that is mostly high, dry desert. Most of the worlds can easily be dropped into most systems, but some are in systems that are themselves unusual in one way or another, such as with a black hole companion, at the edge of a galactic arm or intergalactic space or on the outskirts of a globular cluster.

Each planet is given an overview giving its points of interest and an illustration, and each comes with one or two adventure hooks. Currently, two of these hooks have been developed into Cepheus Engine adventures, Girl Gone and No Questions Asked.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here is an example planet:

Journey's End - At the very edge of a galactic arm or even a galaxy, this is characterised by a night sky that is, in one direction, almost completely dark, something which has been known to cause psychological problems with inhabitants and visitors.

One page of the supplement is the cover, one the front matter.

Thanks for letting me know. I've only used it in desktop and not had any issues, but I've noticed there has been the occasional problem with older PDFs that were created in Scribus. I'll update it in InDesign as soon as I can.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
