Minimal Playbooks Plus - Dungeon World

ADD TO WISHLIST >

UPDATE - 2.0

2 versions of the playbooks! One goes back to the classic roots of DW, the other embraces openness and the creative freedom of players:

  • Vanilla Playbooks: While keeping all of the quality of life tweaks (stats, XP tracker, etc.) these playbooks bring back the name, look, race, alignment, and bond suggestions that make DW so "noob-friendly". Perfect for playing with new players.
  • Open Playbooks:  These go in the completely opposite direction - There are no suggestions whatsoever! Just plenty of blank line space for experienced / creative players to write out their name, look, drives, background, flags, and bonds (there is an especially large amount of flag and bond space). But of course, suggestions are still extremely helpful. That is why I've created and included, completely free...

Character Creation Player Handouts! These are meant to be printed, double sided, then cut in half and passed around. I scoured the DW & RPG community for Name, Look, Drive, Flag, Bond, and Background suggestions, then consolidated them into these handouts! This is somewhat of an experiment, so if you use these in conjunction with the open playbooks, please please report back to me on the pros, cons, and any other observations!

INFO

Based on the stellar original "Minimalist Dungeon Playbooks", by Brennan Reece.

An ongoing and continually updated project, my goal is to make my ideal format for DW playbooks. Turns out, a lot of other people liked it as well!

This is what ideal looks like for me, included in these playbooks:

  • Minimal Folded Booklets: These are printed on two-sides, then folded in half. Saves table space, saves paper, and saves time by keeping all important info close together!
  • Class Headers and Icons
  • Compact XP Tracker
  • Compact Stat Tracker
  • Tons of small Quality of Life Tweaks
  • Wizard Spellbook has boxes for both “Learned” and “Prepared”

Please tell me if I've made any mistakes, misspellings, or worse! I am open to suggestions, and am looking to continually improve these playbooks. I would like to make more of these for the multitude of community / alternate classes.

Check out my Minimal Compendium Class Inserts, designed to fit snugly into any Minimal Playbooks.

Love how everything fits into a single sheet (asides from the spellcasting playbooks of course)! Just a note that the trigger for the Druid's Shapeshifter is only fixed in the "open" and not the "vanilla" version of the playbooks

I am a huge fan of these. Unless they have been changed recently, though, there is an error in the wizard's cantrips. The text under Light is from the Parley move.

That one is fixed! Though the mixup for the Druid's shapeshifter move is sadly still there.

Love these! The text on the Druid move Shapeshifter is mixed up however. Where the trigger should be, it reads "You ignore the clumsy tag on armor you wear." (version 2.2)

Love the design and layout of these playbooks, having em fold over into booklets is genius.
My only complaint is some misprints in the spellbooks. Revelation is titled Animate Dead in the Cleric spellbook, and the descriptions for Light, Visions Through Time, Mimic, Mirror Image and Cloudkill are all incorrect in the Wizard spellbook.
Those things aside, I love the playbooks and the minimal character creation guide and intend to use them for all games going forward

Hey everyone! I have an update to the file coming soonish. I've found some various misspellings, errors, etc. (some more serious than others) and that is in large part thanks to some dedicated reporting! Thanks for the feedback and help! I'll send that out in the next few days.

Hey everyone! I'm aware of a small issue where some of the pdf pages look HUGE compared to others, and I'm looking into why that is happening. It shouldn't make a difference when you actually print the PDFs as long as you have the scaling set to 100% (which should be default). I'll upload a new file ASAP. (I also fixed a bit of wonky formatting on the Bard playbook)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
