Through the Breach RPG - Core Rules

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Control your destiny.

Journey back to the early 1900s, where a dimensional rift leading to the magical world of Malifaux has changed human history. Steam power and steel collide with magic and monsters in this dangerous and exciting roleplaying game. Are you brave enough to change your destiny?

This second edition rulebook has been designed to be backwards compatible with all first edition Through the Breach supplements and adventures.

The Core Rules contain all the information players need to begin adventuring in the world of Malifaux!

Our cart limit is 75 line items (i.e., individual products). A Bundle, regardless of its contents, counts as one line item. You can, however, have more than one copy of each item in your cart. If you have more than 75 individual line items in your cart, you will encounter problems checking out.

Where can I get a physical copy of this if I already have the PDF?

Saw an expansion that had a cool cover...
Searched to find the core book to get more info.
Saw the price and turned around and went looking at Castle Falkenstein, instead.

Fan of the world and the skirmish game, but this price is exactly why people who just torrent things think they're justified. They aren't , but sweet god this is a ridiculous price. Looking through reviews and previews it looks like most of the art assets are recycled from the skirmish game. Dear Wyrd, maybe try to emulate Games Workshop some other way, rather than copying their insanely out of whack pricing.

40 dollars for a pdf when are rpg companies going to learn.... perhaps look at what http://eclipsephase.com/ is doing. Can't spend this much on a pdf no matter how good it is.

I cant seem to figure out what the difference between Through the Breach and Malifaux is. They're both in the same world, but I can't tell how the two differ. Like is it two different kinds of game? different system? I don't know....

Malifaux is a skirmish level miniatures wargame (Think Warhammer 40k or Warmachine. Ruler measurement, army lists, attack and movement phases etc.), Through the Breach is a card driven tabletop RPG. While they share the same setting and are made by the same company, the two games are part of different niches in the hobby community.

Ah, thank you very much. Google couldn't answer my question, strangely enough.

What the serious ...? $51.94 AUD just for a digital download.
Well that's a crapper of a price tag just to see if I want the actual book. Time to find me a free version from somewhere online. You are not giving your customers a lot of reasonable options.

AUD$20 or less I would have paid; Any more is greedy as heck.

Still waiting for this to go on sale. I already have the first edition and $40 for a slightly revised second edition is way way too much.

Title of the book as listed here needs to include the fact that it is the 2nd Edition of the rules set. It is confusing with its current title and I missed it when I was looking for it.

Agree it’s pricey.
Interestingly I found out something about why ebooks etc aren’t even cheaper than they are compared to books.
In the UK books are VAT (sales tax) free. However, pdfs and ebooks are not covered so have to pay VAT at point of sale. That means the prices are always 20% higher than they would be.
Seems daft but pretty much sums up our government!

Interesting, thanks for that information, and yeah sounds about right for our government lol. Maybe we should start a petition to get that looked at...

So much for buying the PDF to see if the game or hardback is worth the money.

$40 for a digital book? That's a bit much. Will you be offering a discount on the physical book when / if the PoD becomes an option to those who buy the digital copy?

They've just recently published a hardbound version; I'd think a print-on-demand option will be a long while coming, surely?

Wow it's like they don't want people to buy their game :/ even at the sale price of $29.90 it's still expensive for a .pdf come on Wyrd you're pricing your game out the market...

For $40, I better get a LOT of PDFs for that price. It sounds interesting (because I like Malifaux 2e), but for this price, I'd rather buy 2 or 3 PDFs from someone else.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
