The Umerican Survival Guide

A Gonzo Post-Apocalyptic Campaign Setting and Sourcebook based on the articles of Crawling Under a Broken Moon

Foretold in the ancient calendars, early in the 21st century a rogue object from deep space hurtled near the Earth and struck the Moon. Its impact caused catastrophic destruction around the globe, ripping the very fabric of time and space itself; yet mankind still survived. Centuries later, the planet is reborn... a strange new place of alien wonder and death: a world ruled by savagery, cruel sorcery, and twisted science. Now is the time for the mighty to rise up and take their place in this perilous and untamed land. Will they bring justice or suffering? Only time will tell...

Within this irradiated tome you will find:

  • A dozen new or revised character class options, nine of which are unique to Umerica: Clerics of the Wasteland, The Cyborg, Feral Urchin, Fossiorian, Grays, Mutant, Petrol Head, Robot, Scavenger, Technologist, Wasteland Warrior, Wizard of the Wasteland.
  • New piecemeal armor system that incorporates damage resistance, ablatives, and armor degradation
  • An extensive, revised mutation system usable by all characters and creatures
  • An expanded vehicular creation and combat system for all of your petrolhead needs
  • A pantheon of Umerican Gods and Patrons, old and new
  • A comprehensive section on the Citadel of Scrap, a good campaign starting point for exploring Umerica
  • Dozens of random tables covering aspects of everyday wasteland life, finding salvage, and adventure creation plus much, much more!
  • All fully compatible with the Dungeon Crawl Classics Role Playing Game from Goodman Games.

Please note that the Umerican Survival Guide is available in two different styles of cover, Chase and Delve. The interior book is the same with either cover. To see the other cover, click here.

I got the fanzine compilation as a gift, for the holidays. Then, I started running a post-apocalyptic campaign at the local library, here in Baltimore. Now I've collected the bundle, and I have everything I need to run an epic campaign of Crawling Under a Broken Moon! Thanks Judge "Reidzilla," for creating an awesome setting for DCC!

I have the reverse question as Brett above. I *do* own the CUABM compilation, all 18 issues, and am wondering if I will find much in here that is not already present there. Thank you.

The Umerican Survival Guide does use some of the content from CUaBM but it is all updated, revised, and expanded. Also, there is a lot of new content as well.

Is this compatible with MCC? Seems very similar on the surface.

What steps would need to be taken to make this compatible with MCC? I'm thinking about running a game set in Umerica while using some of the options from MCC (namely, some of the classes)

Well, all of the Umerica books are based on DCC which uses the "traditional" alignment system and Magic (both clerical and wizardry). Also, the Umerican rules uses a unique mutation system and an alternate armor system. Most of the MCC class abilities will work fine in Umerica with a little tweaking regarding alignment and armor. They MAY be a little under powered compared the the Umerican classes. Many folks use both the Umerican and MCC mutation systems together in their games so that should work without much tweaking. I hope that helps.

Do you need to have the DCC core book to use this book?

Yes, you do. All DCC RPG compatible products require the DCC core book. It is part of the license agreement.

Important question time:
I own neither this lovely work nor any of the Crawling Under a Broken Moon zines.

It seems like the Umerican Survival Guide utilizes a lot of the content in the zines, do the zines contain any information that the Survival Guide doesn't? If so, I plan to buy everything. If not, I'd prefer to save money and buy this awesome product

Hi,

While a lot of content for the USG was lovingly culled and improved from the zines, there is still a lot of material that was not duplicated. The following zines were mostly left unplundered: #3, #5, #8, #9, #10, #13, #14, #15, #16, #17, #18.

When might the POD be released? Or will this have a print run?

Will there be a bestiary follow up?

Does the mutation section include the mineral based powers, defects and changes from CBM?

I am hoping to have the POD ready by the end of Oct/early Nov.

The Twisted Menagerie Manual was also part of the Umerican Kickstarter and is currently being written. We are hoping to release it 1st quarter 2018. Check out the Kickstarter campaign and updates for more info: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/276689953/the-umerican-survival-guide

The mutation section is updated, expanded, and revised from the original one presented in Crawling Under a Broken Moon, issue #2. Yes, the mineral based abilities are there.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for the quick response. The reason I asked for the mineral based mutations is that as far as I know the only other ones that exist are for Gamma World in an old issue of Polyhedron (57). It is nice to see the idea revived and published.

Can't wait to see the Menagerie and this product in my mitts!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
