Generic Dungeon

Watermarked PDF

The Generic Dungeon is a basic Tabletop RPG, running a D6 dice pool system.

This 10 pg RPG has everything you need to run a simple dungeon crawl, Rules for making Human, Elf, Dwarf or Half Orc characters, a bestiary, treasure and encounter tables, plot tables and also corridor and room tables to help plot out a random dungeon, plus lots more.

So grab some dice and some friends and spend a night searching a random dungeon.

For some reason, I can't write a review here, so I'll post it here. First off: 3 stars.

This is a game for a quick romp through the dungeon which is what I expected. I have to add rules to be able to play, though, which isn't something I like when I've payed for a system, even at that low price. The document has quite a number spelling errors, too. There are better works out there for free.
All in all this looks like something designed as a thought experiment and never play-tested or actually used.

Combat-related stuff is fleshed out OK, the rest is lacking or unclear, though.

For example, the rules for armour are only found in an example of how combat is handled, while shields' effects are explicitly stated in the armour section.
While the statement-based character creation is a very nice idea, the lack of explanation of many statements doesn't help (for example "I am better" - How would that be used? It's far too generic for my taste.)...See more

After an extensive re-write of this game (correcting the many typos, too), I'd have to rate this * * /2 stars.

While all I said above is still true, I also discovered many issues with the magic section. The spellcasting system refers to stats which do not exist: you're supposed to add your "spell casting level" when rolling a spell check, but there is none. Going through the rules I decided this must refer to the Magic skill.

Having a spell duration of 1d6 rounds might sound appropriate but makes magic so random that often enough spell points were totally wasted when we played this. Example: Being invisible for 1-6 rounds costs the same amount of MP as a Fireball spell for a flat 5 damage. Similarly, other "general" spells are too unreliable in my opinion.

Another big issue: How do you increase Hit Points and Spell Points? The Leveling Up section states you get to pick another ability or statement, but can I get a statement several times to increase my...See more

Looks cool but price seems high for 10 pages. I'm always intrigued by super-lite games like this though, so I will watch this one for further comments.

Things I'm curious about are:
1.) How easily can it be expanded? For example, are there guidelines for generating different types of PCs?
2.) Are there any NPCs? And if there are any NPCs, are there any guidelines for generating more.

There are no guidelines to generate different PCs but it is pretty simple to do as the system is very straightforward. The monsters all have a negotiation chance which indicates if they can be reasoned with etc so this can create NPC's. We have no intention in expanding it but we are planning on releasing other genres using the same system mechanic, and we will take your comments on board.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
