There was a time when Castlemorn surged and crackled with magic. Life was good, but the era came to a violent and deadly end. Unknown fell beings struck swiftly, making arcane war on Castlemorn. Wizards and common folk alike died in scores of thousands. It seemed as if the world would be consumed…until the land itself rose and cried, “Enough!”

Today, Mournans dwell amid the ruined shards of their former greatness, calling the land CASTLEMOURN, not remembering the time before the Fall. However, the land itself is restless, and long-lurking mysteries are stirring. Those brave enough wonder: Will the fell creatures return, bringing war? Who can now withstand them if they do? What dangers lurk in ruins all across Mournra?

CASTLEMOURN needs heroes now more than ever. Mysteries abound across the lands, from the nearest pasture and woodlot to grim ruins avoided by sane folk. Join master storyteller Ed Greenwood, the famed creator of the world’s most popular role playing setting, in this fantasy world rich in intrigue and adventure with a web of mystery and wonder to meet the tastes of any fantasy role player; those who slash their way to glory, those who revel in solving complicated puzzles, and those who wish to interact with a myriad of strange and interesting characters. CASTLEMOURN has all of this and more!

The CASTLEMOURN Campaign Setting is a 256-page guide to the lands of Mournra. It contains everything needed to create characters and have adventures in the setting using the most current version of Third Edition rules.

Also included is a map and original fiction by Ed Greenwood!

I respect a lot of what Ed Greenwood has done, but unfortunately I couldn't get into this product. A good campaign setting has to really grab you, and despite a few unique ideas around this relatively small land that's recovering from a magical apocalypse [...]

You know that anything written by Ed Greenwood is going be a lavishly detailed immersion into high fantasy, and Castlemourn showcases his abilities (through the excellent MWP) admirably. Castlemourn marries fantasy with one of my other favourite genres [...]

I picked up the player's guide for this at GenCon a few years back. It's great to finally get the full campaign setting. Putting the minds of Margaret Weis' production company with Ed Greenwood (Forgotten Realms) is a pretty cool combo. [...]

Noted author and co-creator of the Forgotten Realms setting has crafted a new world for D&D/D20 players to experience. Although not as geographically expansive as FR, Castlemourn is every bit as ambitious and somewhat easier to digest. The setting is [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
