Description:
Starship.
The word evokes images of titanic gleaming vessels plying the interstellar void, bristling with deadly weaponry and protected by layers of energy shields, pushing back the veil of the unknown and exploring the Galaxy.
To most inhabitants of the 27th Century, at the height of the Interstellar Era, the reality of interstellar travel is much more mundane. Personal starships allow for weary commutes to the nearby Core World. Cargo starships carry raw materials and manufactured goods. Transport shuttles ferry passengers on regular routes. Grungy industrial starships exploit the untapped resources of interplanetary and interstellar space.
Commercial and personal starships come in all shapes, sizes, and functions. Included in this supplement are a variety of non-military starships ranging from family transports to luxury starliners to flesh out your Lightspeed universe.
Also included is a guide to the military starships of the semi-autonomous Royal Space Navy of Great Britain. Great Britain and Russia both enjoy special status within the European Union. In the past century, Great Britain and Russia each threatened to secede and become independent Galactic nations. Still feeling the sting of the secession of Brazil and the Core Wars that followed, the EU made special allowances to both powers. Today, in exchange for continued membership within the EU and special trade and regulatory concessions, both nations are allowed to maintain independent armed forces and interstellar governments.
Great Britain's Royal Space Navy draws upon the rich history and tradition of it's Terrestrial aquatic ancestor to build a space force that prides itself on its extensive lineage and history of excellence.
At present, Great Britain and the RSN are valued equal partners in the EU. The stability of that alliance relies on a prosperous economy and interdependent self-interests. Should the winds of political intrigue shift, Great Britain would sever the remaining ties with the EU and strike out on their own once and for all. This threat, and the specter of a new cycle of Core Wars that would result, hangs like a Sword of Damocles over the EU and, in turn, every major interstellar faction of the Galaxy.
