Generic just got interesting! The game you want - where generic system does not mean bland! We kill bland and take its stuff! Then get bored and take something interesting's stuff! We are a violent generic engine! This is the system Ninjas fear!

Okay, maybe we're hamming it up a bit.

d4-d4 is a roleplaying system best suited to the sorts of games people play: realistic in flavour, with short campaigns friendly to newbies.

A die roll of two four-sided dice, the one subtracted from the other and added to a Trait, and compared to a Difficulty level, resolves most actions. Traits are rated with a description, so that you can say, "Djim is an Outstanding Cook," or "Jane is a Middling Swimmer." From that, you get a performance from Crap to Famous.

The system is designed to allow a range of game styles, from Hack to Thesp. Not only do some Traits compliment one another - so your Excellent Physics can help your Middling Engineering - but personality aspects help, too. This encourages you to bring the character's personality out.

d4-d4. Pyramid versus pyramid, just like ancient Egypt only better.

Current reviews we know of:
- Review by Will Perman at Gaming Report.com , "a rare pearl... the rules are very easy to understand..."
- Review by Rob Muadib , "To summarize, D4-D4 is good. It is a solid and workmanlike system based around a descriptive and narrative style of mechanics."
- Review by Berin Kinsman, Uncle Bear, "Final word: d4-d4 is well worth your time and money. Good touch all around."

D4-d4 has often been compared to Fudge, another(among quite a few others, really) game with adjective ladders. But for me D4-D4 has the feel of GURPS done right, with all its associative traits and such--but without the excessive crunch in chargen. I [...]

First of all it's important to note that d4-d4 is extremely well written. Dispensing with the geak speak this manual delivers its message in a clear, concise, and easy-to-read manner. There are touches of humour and nuggets of wisdom tucked into betwee [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
