Description:
The Player’s Guide for the Chronicles of Ramlar Revised Edition fantasy role-playing game presents the expanded A/B System (“Armor/Body”), usable with any game world. The game engine features:
- Critically acclaimed Demeanor/Theme system that reinforces and rewards character goals; character advancement is not hand-waved but through roleplaying
- Incentives and bonuses for building a solid character concept, so the effort won’t go unrewarded
- Innovative Momentum mechanic to encourage teamwork and swing the tides of battle
- Freeform Expertise to express a character’s unique qualities and skills however you like; perform “stunts” to dramatically stretch the limits of your expertise
- Improvisational Magic so you never have to cast any spell the same way twice
- Resource Level that eliminates bean-counting
- Imagine and create your own devastating combat maneuvers, not from someone else’s pre-defined menu
- Customize armor, weapons, and virtually any provision on the fly
- Streamlined combat; “tactic” is a product of dramatic narratives rather than hardcore number-crunching
- Intuitive percentile resolution to support thrilling heroics; the importance of your action to the story will actually determine the difficulty modifier
- Three styles of play: Heroic, Adventurous, and Mortal to tailor the rules to fit your campaign
The Player’s Guide is a toolbox for players to create both dynamic characters and stories, although you can use it for straightforward dungeon crawls just as easily. Is it a “fantasy heartbreaker”? We don’t think so, as evident by the great emphasis on roleplaying, but we invite you to judge it for yourself. We do believe, like many players and reviewers alike have discovered, you will find the game system a versatile, affordable (at $20), and exciting alternative to the traditional fantasy fare.
