Call of Cthulhu: Murder of Crows

Watermarked PDF

There is trouble in Bethlehem....

Thousands of crows have taken roost in the woods surrounding Bethlehem, NH, mercilessly attacking anyone who tries to enter the forest. The human population is outnumbered more than ten-to-one, and the birds are growing more bold every day. Can the investigators solve the mystery behind this unnatural infestation? Can they save the town of Bethlehem from a disaster of biblical proportions?

Murder of Crows contains everything a Call of Cthulhu group needs for an evening's worth of Mythos-inspired fun, including pregenerated characters. It is the first in an innovative new series of Call of Cthulhu scenarios and supplements from Super Genius Games.

I ran this not as a standalone but as a red herring in the also crow-themed Watchers in the Sky by Pelgrane Press (Trail of Cthulhu, but I ran it for Call). It worked great as a red herring, but I'm glad that's all it was because on it's own, it's a li [...]

I found this this to be a mediocre adventure. With no help from me, my players, (1 noob and 2 players with a small amount of XP) were able to figure out the bad guy about 30 minutes in. After that it was pretty much going through the conversation motio [...]

"Murder of Crows" is a short, but sweet introductory adventure for CoC. It features 2 handouts, a map of Bethlehem and 4 pregens. The investigators are called in to find out what has prompted huge amounts of crows to besiege the peaceful town [...]

The setting is nicely fleshed-out, the atmosphere is creepy and there is room for one or two nice moments of pure horror. Although it may seem blunt, I like the fact that the scenario has a mechanic for the keeper to quick-start the showdown, that's pe [...]

A decent scenario release but not ground-breaking or earth shattering in CoC terms. Liked: Some very good touches in the characterisation/ way NPC characters are described for the ref . Good layout and technical writing skill. disliked: [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
