So, a recently updated file made available... Noted as RBG Conversion... so, what is it? It would be great if the description was updated to specify what the updates are.

Worth checking the free extended / advanced ruleset if grabbing this one.

I got the Humble Bundle version of this and noticed to my surprise that every instance of a lower case "fl" in the text (e.g. "fleet", "flesh", "inflection", etc.) has those two letters invisible, and as it's in a now discontinued font, I can't even fix it with my copy of Acrobat Pro without ruining the page layout. Does anyone who has the version here know if that problem is present?

I like the book very much but I agree that white font on light grey squares makes some parts of the book unreadable.

Does anyone know if a PDF update is coming or if they are ways to fix this ?

Would sure be nice if these games were offered POD - I'm betting you'd get a lot of buyers.

Why have the black background boxes been converted to light grey?

Page 233 "Very Bad Things" is a prime example. It's white font on a near white background. I feel sorry for people with poor eyesight trying to read this.

Also, the 473 mb, 399 pages version is no longer available. It's still 399 pages, but the one I just downloaded is 114mb. Did the 473 mb version have the black background boxes?

Some of the text is virtually unreadable. It should be white text on a black background, but is instead white text on a washed-out gray background, making it almost impossible to read. I know these are old editions, but the book has a 2019 copyright date. You would think that after all this time they could have fixed the pdf versions.

There are two files here:
1) USNA-DarkHeresyCoreRulebook_complete_.pdf
2) USNA-Dark_Heresy_Core_Rulebook_.pdf
#1 is 473 mb, 399 pages, while #2 is 118 mb, 402 pages. Can anyone tell me why #1 is a bigger file?

It's a higher quality scan; they have provided the smaller for devices that get glitchy when opening a half-gig pdf.

I realize it was awhile ago, but I'm going to answer Jeremy's question from a few years back incase anyone is still considering buying this 1st Edition Core Book. The Bookmarks are included with this PDF. There is hyperlinking in the TOC, but its not as elaborate as the preview makes it look. Its main chapter links only as well as all the sidebar content. And, yes, the PDF is searchable.

However, I just did a quick check and it _does not_ include all erreta. It does incorporate some, but I'm going to guess its mostly just ruleset critical stuff that was changed. (Armor descriptions, purchasable skills are at least two areas that seem to be unfixed).

Can anyone confirm that this PDF has a full set of bookmarks, hyperlinked text from the table of contents, and is searchable? Likewise does not now contain all of the Errata information?

I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy this after all this time now that a v2.0 Dark Heresy has been issued very recently, unless you really need an electronic version to back-up your original hardback version.

I had this as a hardback but couldn't get past all the typos and eventually sold it. I see the PDF was updated in 2013. Has anything changed?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
