Description:

Friends or Foes? A Game of Shifting Dangers

The Shadow Fey arrive and turn the city upside down — and their ambassador demands that the player characters explain themselves, for interfering in a legitimate assassination!

So begins the looking-glass adventure that takes Paragon-tier adventurers to the Plane of Shadows, from levels 12 to 15, for an adventure unlike any other!

This inventive take on both Shadow combat and sandbox roleplaying includes:

  • More than 60-location map of the Courts, fully detailed with 100+ NPCs
  • More than 40 combat and skill challenge encounters
  • Dozens of new monsters your players have never seen!
  • Demon lovers and dangerous liaisons for those who seek them
  • Jealous rivals, a quick-play dueling system, and the King and Queen of Shadows
  • New Status system to track player character prestige – and new Status powers!

Enter the world of shadows, and play 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons on a whole new level!

Atmosphere is important in gaming. Those little hints, whether physical, verbal, or even musical can set the stage for a good gamemaster like nothing else in the world. But with only a few exceptions, it’s rare to find a book for a roleplaying game, [...]

I got the hardcopy of this as part of the beta program. The quality is pretty good. The cover is a nice glossy stock with good color. The pages are black and white, but still printed nicely. The adventure is nice for a paragon 4E group. What I like about [...]

This is the third 4th Edition adventure from Open Design - the first two were Wrath of the River King and Halls of the Mountain King - and is probably my favourite. Like Wrath, this adventure has the fey centre stage but the tone here is much darker as [...]

Ever since D&D4e came out, there has been one obvious hole in the product line up. That is adventures written by writers who know and respect 4e's design, yet aren't afraid to use that design to push the baseline with engaging stories, open ended plots [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
