Description:
This is a quick and easy RPG system designed for use across multiple genres. It defines characters in a very simple, freeform way, and gives a framework for resolving conflicts using playing cards. It would serve well for pick-up games, or if you want to try out some setting ideas with a minimum of rules fiddling.

Status. Here's the deal. This initial version has not been tested. That's why I'm throwing it out there as a simple, cheap document. I hope that folks will send feedback by email or comments here. If there are updated versions of this document you'll get them free as usual. It's kind of a pdf 'ashcan'.

Update. There's now a fantasy setting outline, Tigers of Eternity. Check it out on the Silver Branch page. The characters are drafted by fate, becoming the next generation of the eternal band of heroes that protects the world of Arken.

Loom is an abstract, generic RPG rule system that uses playing cards as a randomizer. This is just a system - no setting or genre-specific material is presented at all. Characters are created by choosing one trait in each of six categories - Background, [...]

Loom is a card-based, cinematic / narrative rpg. Since there are already excellent reviews of this game available, I would like to point out that customization will yield rich rewards if you put forth the effort. Also, the price to purchase this game [...]

Very enjoyable read, the rules have a LOT of potential! The rules, although simple, could definitely use a few more examples for folks who may not be used to narrative games. I think Loom could be a great system, it just needs some more time to [...]

First, I actually used this system for a test-run of a one shot game. Something I'm going to be polishing and bringing to a convention soon. So, I not only know how it reads, but how it plays. And, to my delight - it's very playable! You have to have [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
