Haunted House (audio product)

Through a back alley and down an old dilapidated road there is a house that has been abandoned for as long as anyone can remember. Even the homeless and the crack addicts stay away from its rotting wood and the ominous shadows it casts on the dusty yard. But it's not the boarded-up windows or rusty padlocks that keep them away... it's the horrible noises that can be heard, that seem to be coming from within the house's walls. Screams, wails, the sounds of torture and ultimate despair. It is whispered that the house once belonged to a madman... but no one alive knows for sure what happened there... Electric guitar-driven music with ghostly and horrific sound effects.

Music by Mike Trapp; illustration by Ashley.

Sonic Legends soundscapes are a blend of music and sound effects specially designed to enhance tabletop and live-action roleplaying games. The music provides an emotive backdrop that helps your players get into the right mood, and the sound effects give you a realistic sonic environment to set your scene in. Each soundscape is approximately eight to ten minutes in length, and shifts to naturally follow a dramatic storyline. The best part is that each soundscape is seamlessly loopable, so there's no limit to how long your scene has to be! Just download your Sonic Legends soundscape to your mp3 player or laptop, turn up your speakers and GAME ON!

I don't know what I'd use this for, as it is not really suitable for the ambience of a haunted house. It's more like the ambience of a haunted house full of dumb teens partying before they discover the horrible thing that caused the house to be conside [...]

This track will take you through a number of different musical styles, from spacy electronica to rock and roll to lounge jazz. You were expecting creepy, due to the name “Haunted House”? The sounds of wind and indistinct voices—possibly moans or [...]

I would say this reminds me most of a New Wave synth pop version of the Friday the 13th theme. There are creepy laughs and cackles thrown in very lightly in the background. I'm not as big of a fan of the tracks that sound too MIDI, but it gets the job [...]

Decent but doesn't really fit my definition of a "Haunted House" The soundtrack is interesting and well done but doesn't really have a spooky feel to it - it simply feels to modern and techno to really fit a scene in a haunted house in my opi [...]

This does have an 80s flavor to it, and I'd say it's more dark monologue than creepy. It's still very good, for what it is. I think I'll be using it for a Dead of Night game. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
