Deathwatch: Core Rulebook

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome to the front lines, Battle-Brother!

Deathwatch is a roleplaying game in which you take on the role of a member of the Adeptus Astartes - the devout, bio-engineered super-soldiers also known as Space Marines. After many years of exemplary service within your own chapter, you have been singled out and selected to join one of the most unique and specialized collectives of Space Marines - the Deathwatch.

Only the most exceptional candidates from the fighting forces of the Adeptus Astartes are invited to join the mysterious Deathwatch; to take on a new oath to safeguard the Imperium from the darkest of threats. You will now be called into service to hunt down and destroy hostile xenos forces, to seek out and crush the root of heresy and sedition, and to continually fight against the foul daemon menace that crawls forth hungrily from beyond the Warp. You are at the fore of Mankind's war for survival against an extremely hostile universe.

For centuries, the Deathwatch have maintained their silent vigil over the ancient ruins of the Reach, but now you find yourselves on the front lines of a grand Imperial Crusade that has been launched to reclaim this vast region of space from darkness and heresy.

The fate of billions rests in your hands!

I wish they would do a second edition of Deathwatch that added Battle Sisters and some Imperial Guard support roles. The game's only real problem is the utter absence of girls in both gameplay and art work. But it's a critical mass problem. Especially when Rogue Trader is winking with an Eldar Siren.

Does this series align with Dark Heresy rules? I thought I saw somewhere that they were compatible, along with Rogue Trader? Is that true?

Seems there are issues with pages 289-300 it seems outlines of elements are being shown when they should not be.

Sigh. I dream of a day when files would get updated and someone would bother to mention in what way they'd been updated in the update notice . . .

It looks like the errata have not been integrated. Nor has the table on page 73 been fixed.

Given this book is now out of print and physical copies are worth an arm & a leg, it would be great if Cubicle 7 & DTR agreed to offer print on demand for this game.

It looks like the entire PDF bookmark list needs to be repopulated. Not sure how that happened. We'll get someone on it, but it might end up being after the holidays. Sorry about that.

No worries, I figured it had to have been an oversight. Thanks for being on top of it!

Echoing Dale's issue, my copy of the file has bookmarks in it, but none of them work. I've tried redownloading the file but the issue persists, has anyone figured out a fix?

@David - When we acquired the Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay licence last year, we also secured the rights to sell the older editions. And I can tell you that we've been perfectly satisfied with our relationship with Games Workshop as we've worked on Wrath & Glory.

I just bought this PDF, and it looks like something got messed up in the last update. All of the sidebar boxes are too transparent, making them too hard to read (first one is on page 10). If I had to guess, 'transparency flattening' was turned on when the pdf was optimized. (Ironically, that setting usually makes larger files.)
Is there any way it could be corrected? (Or at least have the older one offered alongside the newer one?)

Not that I'm complaining, but how did you get license to sell this series? I thought GW screwed over everybody who did.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
