Welcome to the Art of War, a new miniature wargame that invites you to help decide the fate of intelligent life and planets all across the galaxy. Within the pages that follow, we have endeavored to create new challenges and tactics to players who are looking for a change of pace, and also lower the barriers to new players joining the gaming and modeling hobby.
To people who are not familiar with miniature wargaming I ask you to envision chess, but instead of each player using matching sets of pieces the players can customize what they play with by choosing different combinations of pieces. And instead of moving on top of another piece to capture it, players roll dice to figure out which piece takes the other one out.
To those people who are old hands at wargaming, we invite you to try what we've put together. We have aimed to strike a new balance between realism and simplicity, giving you several points of decision but still allowing for speedy play. We are also bringing you a game with an interactive story line. Beginning in January 2005, each month our campaign gives you the chance to fight for the existence or annihilation of entire planets, with limited edition miniatures available as prizes.
Those of you who have collected miniatures for games that you no longer play, we say to you adapt those models to new uses. Through the AIMM system you will be able convert miniatures you already have at hand to play. You don't have to buy more stuff! The universe of Art of War is so vast that almost any model in the 24-28 mm scale can find a planet and race to represent.
