The Mutant Epoch™ post-apocalyptic RPG challenges your in-game persona to survive in an age of rediscovery, high adventure, savage conflict, and freakish mutants and machines. Characters work in small excavation teams making forays into ruined cities, through junk-strewn wastelands, twisted forests, nightmarish swamps, and across polluted seas. During their expeditions they must contend with mutant beasts, the environment, as well as raiders, cultists, and robotic forces, only to stake their place in the newly emerging barter forts and factional bastions of humanity.

Players can take on the roles of pure stocks, mutants, ghost mutants, cyborgs, bestial humans and an assortment of synthetic or engineered humans.

All you need is this book, dice, paper and pencils, a few friends and your imagination. The Mutant Epoch™ uses the Outland System™ game mechanic, which employs the full set of polyhedron dice, is easy to learn, logical, fast-paced, and perfectly suited to the hardcore action of post-apocalyptic gameplay.

Inside this lavishly illustrated book you will find all the rules, art and content to generate characters, challenge them with perils, and then reward them with potent relics. This core book includes: • 8 character types • 30 castes • 36 skills • over 111 mutations • 68 cybernetic implants •104 creatures • 9 robots and 10 androids • complete encounter tables • hazards, traps and insanity • typical humans • rules for called shots, parrying and chases • 9 relic vehicles, 44 weapon relics, 14 armor relics and 70+ miscellaneous relics • common PA vehicles and 10 scrap built Vehicles • dozens of helpful tables • character sheet • GMs party record sheet • grid and hex paper, and much more!

Plus, there are numerous supplemental books, free Creatures of the Apocalypse, Pay What You Want PDFs, fiction, art, and as an added bonus buying the TME Hub Rules book automatically grants the owner exclusive membership in the Society of Excavators.

Amazing system, very much looking forward to running this! I've noticed though that my PDF appears to be missing a bit of text (or I'm missing something!). I downloaded it again 10/10/2019 to be sure it hadn't been updated and it's still missing. I couldn't find it mentioned on your forum and it's the same across two different PDF readers.

Page 44, under the section for "Special technician 2 skill point junk crafter combo items". It has full text for electrical, chemical and robotics techs, but the mechanical tech entry in full is "Mechanical technician: These special junk crafters can make a squeaky" - that's it, it cuts off and is not continued on the next page.

Is this picked up elsewhere in the PDF (and is there an entry for computer techs)? Please let me know! Otherwise an incredible piece of work. Super excited for the expansion rules to come out!

Just bought this and I notice the Hub Rules have no PDF bookmarks or outline, is this intentional?

I don't think I've even seen a PDF for sale that hasn't had at least one of the two. I opened it in 3 PDF readers, including the most recent update to Acrobat DC.

Also, a friend of mine has this game and his PDF has an outline, so if the book doesn't normally feature one I'm assuming he made it himself..

Anybody know what's going on with this?

Hi Robert,

Unless these features of bookmarks and Outline go by a different name, I am not sure they are included. The table of contents, index and every interval mention of another page within the PDF book is linked. If there are features you'd l to see, I'd sure like to learn about them to update this book as well as the upcoming expansion Rules book, which is like part 2 of this the hub rules. You can contact me directly at info@outlandarts.com if you'd prefer and thanks for bringing attention to this. WM

This is odd. I am sure One Book Shelf addressed this years ago but my response from back then isn't showing up here.

I purchased this product about a week ago and sent a couple of emails to the publisher as directed with my code so I would be added to SOE. I have not heard back so I thought I would try to contact them through here. I'm not sure if my email is going to a spam folder or something but your site says it should only take 24 hours to get a response. Please help, thanks!

This was resolved January 2017 but the comments from rpgnow either didn't copy over to drivethrurpg or evaporated into the digital wasteland. Brian, you're in our records and on the mailing list. I trust our communications channels are open still? Email me at info@outlandarts.com if you have any questions. WM

This looks great! Will there be a POD option for DriveThru at any point? I'm a huge fan of TMNT and After The Bomb. Will there be any mutant animal expansion planned?

I too loved After The Bomb. Matthew, this is filled with mutant animals! The base setting could be used with that slant or the rules would very easily work for a TMNT After The Bomb setting. If you liked TMNT's rules, you should like TME's, similar without the need for the slide ruler! I love the mechanics and the game is well supported.

Kyle the setting is much more P.A. than Mad Max. It definitely could be used for Road Warrior and it could be gonzo. It kinda depends on how its played; but can do both and does the whole topic well.

Would you say this works better for grim, gritty Road Warrior With Muties playstyles, or bonkers gonzo Thundarr the Barbarian stuff?

I'm really enjoying reading the book so far. Androids seem to be hinted at as a PC race many times. Is this a teaser? :^)

Yes, they will be playable characters in upcoming Expansion rules book, along with a lot of other new character types. No date set for the release of the new rules book, gonna take a lot of playtesting, art and editing yet!

Where or in what book? Is the explanation for the letter system? I'm hopeful this isn't one of those. I have to have bought another book things.

I've heard that the font for this is a bit small. Any recommendations on alternate page size for a printshop edition?

Hi Jeremy,

If you are referring to the comments made in this youtube review,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1Yn9qub1bU
by Tetsubo57 then yes, that 8 x 10” version that I believe he looked at did have smaller than standard type as the book had to be shrunk from the 8.5 x 11" standard edition back in the early days before createspace had the letter size option. I have over 40 year old eyes and reading is a strain, but I have no problem reading the TME Hub Rules and so every day when referring to the main book when crafting new game content. It is 9 point type for most of it, like the size in most novels I guess. All our follow up books had much larger type (11pt).

I saw a copy of this recently and am really, really intrigued. I wonder though, how does this game handle powered armor?

Powered armor is handled carefully, at least by the game master. While there are several sorts of relic suits left over, the tricky part for characters is finding enough ammo or getting a power back charged… which is an adventure all in its own. Whenever I, as game master, have introduced power armor, I have already had it first appear worn by the villain! That makes him or her a deadly opponent, but also displays the awesome clout of such ancient technology.

As far as rules go, various power armors have a different array of weapon systems, force fields, jump jets or modifiers to the wearer’s strength and other traits. Such relics are for high rank game sessions only. Glad you’re interested in the game, have a great week!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
