Falling Scales Chapter One

The World of Darkness is terrifying, broken place. It has all of the problems and tragedies of our own, familiar world, but monsters also lurk in the shadows. Their presence makes the world more dangerous in a plethora of ways. Some of the supernatural beings prey on people in a literal sense — vampires drink the blood of the unwary, for instance, and crazed beasts hunt down people for their flesh. But other such beings simply make the world unsafe. They wage their secret wars and claim their territories and they all seek to keep the unknowing masses out.

Knowledge is like water. It seeks to escape. It finds its own level. It seeps into everything, and no matter how well-maintained the secret, someone eventually learns it. In the soul of every living being in the world is the potential to know, to become part of this secret. And now, one brilliant woman has decided that the world can no longer afford to be ignorant.

Falling Scales is the first installment in a multi-part chronicle. While these stories are meant to build on one another, they are also written so as to be useful and playable on their own. The only book necessary to run Falling Scales is the World of Darkness Rulebook. If your troupe wishes to play through this story using characters from one of the other World of Darkness games (or even a mix of several!), information for doing so is provided.

Please note: the PDF version of Falling Scales has a landscape orientation for ease of use on tablets or other electronic devices (just like most White Wolf SASs), while the Now in Print PoD version is 8.5" x 11" portrait orientation like most of White Wolf's books- also for ease of use. Also, the PoD version is 52 pages with a slightly different cover design because of the format change.

„Falling Scales – Chapter One“ ist der erste Teil eines vier Kapitel umfassenden SAS-Abenteuers von White Wolf. Die Teile sollen aufeinander aufbauen, jedoch getrennt voneinander spielbar sein. Da bisher nur der erste Teil erschienen ist, kann ic [...]

Note: This is based from a read-through, not a play-through. Some things about this I liked quite a bit. The villains, while villainous, are also human and understandable The plot, in general, remains quite fle [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
