Budget Battlefield Universal Miniatures Rules

ZIP File
As nominated for the Origins Award for Best Miniatures Rules and Best Game of 2001, and now in a brand-new expanded 3rd Edition! Budget Battlefield is a tabletop/miniatures rule system for mass battles, focused on ease of play and flexibility to work with any genre or time period. The combat systems can be used with any miniatures you already have (or our own inexpensive cardstock Army Packs), using a modified version of the PlainLabel Game System which requires only a single 1D10 roll to resolve an attack and determine losses.
Unit stats and all necessary data are recorded on trading-card-sized Unit Cards. Conversion of Simply Roleplaying! / Compact Combat characters to be used as hero/leader figures in the Budget Battlefield environment is easy, allowing roleplaying or boardgame characters to join in battles with minimal fuss.
For the new 3rd Edition, Designer Greg Poehlein has expanded Budget Battlefield and added hooks and enhancements to make it easier to use Budget for any sort of tabletop combat. Now incorporated into the basic rules is an expansion of material originally presented in the separate Battle Magic supplement to the 2nd edition rules. Also added is a newly-clarified and extended play sequence that makes the game flow more smoothly and makes it easy to add any sort of special powers and abilities into play.

NOTE: To keep the price of this new expanded 3rd Edition down for those who want to use their own miniatures, this rulebook does not come with army figures previously sold as part of the 2nd edition package! All cardstock standup figures can be purchased separately.

The rules are easy to understand and quick to pick up. I particularly liked the ability to use any army against eachother, which is rare in most game systems. In one game I used fantasy demons with cardstock marines to knock up a chaos army to fight my [...]

For the price.....this game feels entirely too generic. Not a terrible game, I just feel there are much better rule sets out there. [...]

I really can't complain about the rules.Actually the rules are awsome. I just wish they had included the Human Royal Army and the Undead Army like the product states. Now it does say plain as day on RPGNOW website no armies included. To Keep the price [...]

Budget Battlefield is a good set of generic minis rules. The rules are simple to learn and follow. We've run a number of battles using these rules, in a variety of settings and periods. The rules are simple enough for kids to play, but they also hav [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
