Line of Fire 13 is filled with the usual excellence. Lavish use of graphics makes for a visual feast.

Brothers by my Side
by Gunther B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/06/2013 09:08:28
My biggest gripe is no period flavor. So if you are looking to game out WE WERE SOLDIERS, pass on this one. You don't get a sense this is Nam. The game lacks detail, basically you have infantry platoons and leader counters. Mortars and Machine guns are factored into heavy weapons units. At this scale they should be shown as squads or sections. Their placement was often critical. The leaders are all the same, and as anyone who has ever served knows, all butter bars, second lieutenants, are not created equal. Same complaint with air strikes, very bland, a Sandy, Sky-raider could loiter for ever while a jet Phantom had to get in and out quickly. Finally the key to air mobile operations the helicopters are way to abstract, the landing zones are always, available and open. You wish...
On the positive side the map looks good and the variant cards add a nice touch. There are several miniature rules sets that do this battle better and more economically.

White Star Rising: Operation Cobra
by peter c. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/21/2012 08:57:27
The product should come with 24 pages only 20 arrive, with no counters to print making it a rather dear though good rulebook, with counters it would be worth four stars. I had no problems downloading Lock and load magazine 13 with the Alma Game. The scenarios are varied with Polish and French troops, the counter mix adds just the right vehicles

World at War: Revelation
by Dennis M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/28/2012 14:14:28
World at War: Revelation reads like a decent first effort, and some effort may be required on the part of the reader to read it without setting it down and coming back to it. I see it as an admirable handling of the mix of horror and war genres. Character development was sufficient to draw the reader in without slowing down the narrative.
I did find the inclusion of psionics distracting. It did seem as thought the author was attempting to stack one more literary device atop an already respectably-sized heap, and it does work, but just barely.
It compares favorably to the "Fiends of the Eastern Front" trilogy. That said, I am looking forward to seeing another installment in this series.

World at War: Revelation
by Neal H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/28/2011 12:59:18
This is an enjoyable book to read, on par with work by Tom Clancy, Ralph Peters, and Harold Coyl. Revelation ignores much of the global powerplays of WWIII (set in 1985) in favor of an "in the trenches" viewpoint with a handful of characters, not all of whom are soldiers. As a fan of war fiction and horror fiction, this is a good blend of both in genres that don't always work well together. The characters are well written and develop as the novel progresses.

There is a heavy supernatural influence in the plot, with several main characters of supernatural orgin. It reminds me of games such as Wierd War and some Call of Cthulhu supplements. The fact that the story goes back and forth in time is a little jarring, and had me flipping back through the pages to remind myself of the timeline of major events, but anyone with any experience with war fiction won't be put off.
