As with this all of these I have seen so far, this product is decent with a large volume of "duplicate" items with only slightly varying abilities. It's not strictly true that the product contains 50 new itmes. It's more like 15 - 20 with most of the others being almost identical with slightly different abilities.

LIKED: A reasonable amount of fresh ideas for $1. At best, the product sparked an idea of my own, at which point I wrote a completely original item based only loosely on the one in the product.

DISLIKED: Many of the items are weak. Only a handful are truly original. Most of them are basically duplicates with effects differing only on the element of the effect, the type of creature it affects, etc...

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
I bought a bunch of these (most if not all) and like them quite a bit. I'm always on the lookout for interesting magic items that are well made. These fit the bill well. Very reasonably priced as well.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Some decent items here, but suffers (like its companion products) from relentless repetition. That's a problem in 3.x already; do third party vendors really have to make it worse? Ten variants on one magic item, each one with just a single change in the description... it gets really annoying.

Maybe I shouldn't grumble, since it's just a buck. But come on -- some of us print .pdfs. Even at just a nickel a page, it adds up. This was a 13 page .pdf that could easily have been maybe four pages long, with no loss of functionality. Did this tree have to die?

DISLIKED: A buck for a 13 page .pdf sounds pretty good. A buck for a 13 page .pdf that has only four or five pages of new content... less good.

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Disappointed
As with the other Buck-a-Batch files I've purchased, the quality of ideas runs the gamut from boring to original and interesting.

Cons:

 1. Lousy game mechanics. Too often there are no DC's given for an item's ability. Most items do not specify the type of action (standard, free) needed to activate them. Also, the pricing seems pretty out-of-whack, with several items actually cheaper than less powerful items in the DMG.
 2. 50 items? There's some repetition among the items, though much less than in some of the other pdf's by this company. For instance, instead of listing five individual Belts of Resistance (one for each element), just list one and specify that it functions against only one element.

Pros:

 1. Ideas. The author seems to be very weak on mechanics, but is strong on flavor. There are some good items in here. I especially liked the Boots of Light Step.
 2. Value. At a dollar, I just can't knock this product too much. If I can work just a half-dozen of the better items into my campaign, I'll have gotten more than my money's worth.

LIKED: Some of the items are original and useful.

DISLIKED: Weak game mechanics.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Great value for the price. It's nice to not have my players immediately recognize the items they just found or were awarded. What DM can't identify with that? Very clever stuff.

GOOD RECOURCE, HOWEVER I THOUGHT USING THE SAME TEMPLATE FOR A WEAPON/ARMOR AND MODIFYING IT SLIGHTLY,AND LISTING THAT VARIED TEMPLATE 20 TIMES WAS KINDA CHEAP. BUT STILL A DECENT RESOURCE.

Hm. I like the cloak series, though i find myself wondering what "visible sound" looks like. I also don't quite understand the logic in having the different elemental cloaks have their powers at different caster levels than the others (and different from the caster level defined at the bottom of the description), as it lacks symmetry. For instance, the firey cloak has burning hands 3/day, caster level 3 and fireball 1/week, caster level 9. THe sonic cloak has enthrall 1/day, caster level 5, and shout 1/day, caster level 8. Perhaps it was done to make the costs more even, but even then the sonic cloak seems more powerful than the firey cloak.

I like the hat of blindness and devouring, that last is good to spring on players who are wary of bags of holding.

The Carry-light pouch and backpack cost exactly the same, even if the carrying capacity of the former is much less than the latter. Also, the Easy-tear pouch and backpack have different prerequisites (the pouch lacks "reverse gravity" and both have mending), and I wonder why a bag that falls apart uses a spell that fixes thing (magical law of antipathy, perhaps).

Still, great ideas, good value.

Lots of good stuff! A good resource for those DMs who need that something different without having to really work at it!
