Future Armada: Vanguard Station
by Marc G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/24/2012 11:11:36

Vanguard Station is a nice set for running a good claustrophobic space horror game. Nowhere to run and no where to hide! The options for both full color and line drawings are nice along with a "GM's map" version for easy notation. Like all in this series, a real gem!

Very good ship and design. I was expecting something little bigger (for my lost-in-space campagin) but it's an excellent work!

Future Armada: Morningstar
by Heinz K. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/16/2012 11:51:15

This ship is beautifully done and accurately executed. I used it far away from its original purpose and puzzled a SSV-Normandy-clone for a MassEffect-P&P-game from its parts. It almost hurt to do that to a wonderful design, but the result made up for it. :-) All parts are very comfortable to adapt, and that seems to be the case for all Ki Ryn Studios ships. I can highly recommend these for any setting.

0 hr: Demon Delve Cavern
by Christopher H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 04/18/2012 00:15:17

This is a really nice type of product: a fully-conceived and illustrated adventure location, complete with inhabitants and a backstory, but easily customizable and completely system-independent. Read through the descriptions, print and assemble the battlemap, drop in appropriate monsters from your favorite system, and you’re ready to go! The product’s main weakness, on the other hand, is the mixture of artistic styles on the battlemap, where harsh black lines clash with photorealistic textures, and the attempt to use Photoshop beveling to make the water appear recessed actually has the opposite effect, making it appear “puffy.” For only $3.95, however, you can probably overlook these relatively minor aesthetic flaws.

All of the Future Armada series are amazing. This particular starship, and it's obvious inspiration were the first purchase I made in the series, and were so amazing that I have since purchased everything available as soon as it comes out. I cannot recommend this series highly enough.

The Future Armada series are still the best ship plans available. Beautifully rendered and full of character. Well worth the money!

Future Armada: Talon
by William W. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 02/17/2012 08:42:04

A light starship design for d20 sci-fi RPGs - this document contains historical background for the Talon bounty hunter ship, detailed deck plans, several external views (featuring the different wing positions) and some supplemental material (stats a ground vehicle carried in the hold, and details of the ship's escape capsule and cargo and passenger containers).

The level of detail is excellent, art is very good, and the doc as a whole is clear and organized.

Future Armada: Cygnus
by Michael T. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/03/2012 05:42:39

As part of my ongoing series of scenarios that involve fighting arctic Nazis, there's the inevitable battle on a flying saucer. In this case, the saucer has been secretly supplied by the Greys to the Karotechia (from the Delta Green role-playing game) after Majestic-12's relationship with them began to fail. And oh yeah, the ship is piloted by an Austrian undead cannibal who looks a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Where was I? Right, I need a flying saucer deck plan. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find such a thing. Surely modern characters get abducted by aliens and have to fight their way out? Anybody? No?

A search for "UFO deck plans" or "UFO battle maps" yielded nothing. So I had to scan through the deck plans visually until I found this little gem. Don't let the detachable nacelles on either side fool you, the Cygnus is a flying saucer.

Don't let the title "Science Vessel" fool you either. Oh sure, Greys would use a science ship to vivisect cows and random citizens, but if you're planning to use this ship as part of an alien invasion there's a militarized version called the Aquila that will do nicely.

In addition to two different customizable deck plans, there are accompanying plans for a shuttle (both in the bay and empty), black-and-white versions for easier printing, and plenty of color art of the various ships. The real kicker is that D20 Modern stats are provided, and since I seem to be one of the few game masters still hosting a game, it feels like Wolfe made this just for me.

Future Armada: Cygnus
by Alexander O. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/02/2012 09:04:18

This is a solid buy for a ship that will hopefully be the focus of your campaign, or at least figure prominently for several adventures.

The PDF download comes with (1) book with the stats, history, explanations for the Cygnus Science Vessel shown on the cover, the Aquila (a lesser version of the Cygnus) and a shuttlecraft; (2) a set of color maps for the ships; (3) a set of B&W maps for the ships. There's also a folder with art depicting the Cygnus and the Aquila.

I like the redundancy of maps, which are clearly presented and annotated at a smaller scale in the main book to give an idea where everything is (especially important for the Cygnus, which is the biggest ship); and at a larger scale in the color and B&W versions.

I've picked up another Future Armada product before this one and, having seen the continuing quality of work, would buy the rest as well as soon as I can get started running my campaign!

Future Armada: Midnight Rose
by Jason F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/06/2011 17:30:57

Comes with two deck plans, both in color and black & white, with blank rooms and cargo containers so you can mix and match for a customized battle map. Includes bathrooms (or heads as you sea dogs call it) which puts it better than most every Traveller design I've ever seen.

A few nitpicks keep this product from being perfect though:

  1. The stairwells on the black & white copies need touched up a bit. Nothing that can't be fixed with a basic art program but still.
  2. The forward hold can be used as an airlock but there are no dedicated airlocks on this space ship. For me that is a design flaw.

Those nitpicks aside, a good product at a good value.

Future Armada: Argos III & Invictus [BUNDLE]
by andrew b. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/13/2011 10:45:38

I was very impressed with this bundled set. Everything one could need to play a political/action space opra game is here. Included in this set is artwork portraying all the different ships at least once, with more shots of the namesakes of the two products. There are large overview maps and detailed tiles which overlay in a staggering amount of patterns. d20 stats are given for some NPCs and all the space vehicles present. There are section descriptions with interesting tidbits thrown in along the way as well as keyed points with specific names for businesses, etc. Each product has a shuttle and a fighter making a total of four smaller, practical ships, the capital ship, and a huge space station. This is not a 'slacker' product and used as it it is perfect.

The fun part is seeing what it can be used as. The tiles can be arranged or even whole section maps recycled as bad guy bases or shoot out scenes at water reclamation centers or whatever one can imagine. Everything is well organized and after flipping through the PDFs a few times, it all makes sence. This is a good product and I know I am echoing what almost everyone else says about this company, but darn it, its true. If you play SciFi games, purchase this product. Its worth this price just obtaining all the detailed and interesting maps. Whenever a game doesnt go the way you want it and the players start waundering off the reservation, its nice to have someplace to go. This gives you all of the setting one could need in a station, a city, some corridor in some starship, whatever.

Ki Ryn Studios puts a full days work in thier products. This isnt some space filler and a few line drawings on a computer like what Ive gotten with products about as expensive as this one. This is a lot of detail and organization and preparation all brought together and placed under your fingertips. If you read all of the comments, none of them say anything bad. I dont remember reading one negative comment about any of the Future Armada products, because believe me I checked on them. This is the only bundle of thier products, buy it, check out what they can do. You will be crooning thier praises in the comments section yourself.

Future Armada: MisFortune
by Alec S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/14/2011 12:30:51

I have come to the conclusion that anything from the Future Armada series is pure gold, and the MisFortune is no exception. This is the perfect ship to run half a doven adventures on, an alien style hunt was what first came to mind. In addition to the maps, which are good enough on their own, this book includes d20 stats and a solid background for both ship and crew. The ship AI in particular should inspire some interesting plots. Finally, while stated for d20, there are enough details for a slightly enterprizing GM to convert this to most other systems, and the ship is generic enough that doing so will not jar the universe. All in all, well worth the price.

Future Armada: Midnight Rose
by Tiago H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/11/2011 08:51:27

This is a ship to fall in love with! At least, I have. Ryan Wolfe's Future Armada Ships are always very well designed and have that feeling that everything is in his proper place and that it is a functional starship, not just a "Dungeon in space", but this ship particularly is something more, it has character. Midnight rose aims for that 'rusty bucket that needs love to fly' feel, like Han's Millenium Falcon or Mal's Firefly, and nails it perfectly. It's a small ship, perfect for a group of characters to sail the void looking for adventure and credits.

Future Armada: Orion

I have 9 of the Future Armada series, and while they're all spectacular, Orion is definitely my favorite. The artwork and details are light years beyond anything else out there. I've spent hours going over the maps, and the background information makes for fascinating reading. This whole series is first rate!
