Dungeon of Despair Scenics
by Bruce L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/19/2023 14:03:50

For 2.75D Dungeon Terrain, this is great stuff. It is a matter of print, build, repeat. I prefer to print on full sheet label paper, cut, peel, and mount onto 2mm thick, cardboard backing board, from a local framing shop. Cut those to size, using either a gray, or a black, marker to 'paint' the edges with. A quick application of translucent (non-shiny) Scotch Tape wrapping around the length of the edges helps prevent peeling, over time.

I use a table saw to cut a 1/4" deep, 1" grid into 1" thick foam floor mats, from my local Harbor Freight store. I use 3-4 colors of craft paints (white, tan, medium brown, dark yellow), applying them with a natural sponge, and wet blending them, on the mats, to create a mottled dungeon floor surface. I slot the finished cards into the rubber mats (after they completely dry, of course), to build out my dungeon of rooms, chambers, and hallways. Here is a link to an image.

I plan to use this approach to build out the dungeons of G3: Halls of the Fire Giant King, for a full immersion gaming experience, complete with all the miniatures needed. This set makes that possible! Cheers!

.45 Adventure Paper Miniatures
by Peter S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/26/2008 21:13:40

I was very disappointed with these paper minis. The creator could have offered more than one page and I wish the creator had offered some close ups in their samples as I felt the charachters looked too much like a cartoon or comic and wouldn't have purchased them. I had already purchased the Arion Pulp miniatures previously and although Arion is more expensive, I thought the art for the Arion pulp provided a much more realistic look. So unless you have extreme budget issues, I would highly recommend getting the Arion Pulp minis instead of these as I don't even think I got what I paid for. These will sit on my hard drive as I will use the Arion ones and not waste any ink or cardstock printing these.

.45 Adventure: Crimefighting Action in the Pulp Era
by James H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/12/2008 21:54:32

As a set of mini rules, .45 Adventure fills a niche that (to my knowledge) no other product currently does. I've long been looking to step away from RPGs and back towards a more simple, focused, type of games. Wargames seemed to be the logical thing to pursue and, as I'd had a hankering for Pulp Adventure lately, .45 Adventures seemed to be worth the buy-in price. After reading the rules, there's nothing that makes them stand out as pure Awesome but there also isn't anything that makes them stand out as a bad ruleset. Given that the rules work and they are (again, to the best of my knowledge) the only Pulp Adventure minis rules out there, the $8.00 cover price is a steal. One thing to note is that, at the time of my purchase a few weeks ago, the download still lacked a cover (and the cover thumbnail alluded to by others appeared to be corrupt). When contacted, the publisher did send me a different (seemingly updated) copy of the file, complete with a cover, however. It is possible that they have since updated the download here, as well.

.45 Adventure: Crimefighting Action in the Pulp Era

I'm extremely happy with this game and I think it was a nice surprise to the rest of my group when I had them try it out. The narrative-driven gameplay really appealed to this group of roleplayers. Only a few models per side are needed for an evening's enjoyment with larger games possible as well. This makes it easy on the wallet. The system is simple enough to pick up quickly with enough detail to keep it interesting. Character creation is also a breeze and allows for some very colorful personalities.

<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Fun and affordable with a great "pulpy" feel. The skills list really adds a lot to the characters. <br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: It could use a revision as there are some rules that are a bit unclear.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

An interesting game system. Well done, as far as the rules go ... though there are a few places where a little proof-reading would have been valuable, but that's life. Well laid out, in general.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Clean system. Simple. Easy to run.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: No Cover included in the pdf file. There is a cover thumbnail, so, presumably, a cover exists ... but it isn't included. I emailed the publisher with a query and ... well, that was months and months ago. No reply. Not happy<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Disappointed<br>

All around a very good product, with an easy on the pocketbook price. The system is easy to understand and play. The nicest thing is that most battles take place on a 2' x 2' area, and include some roleplay like elements. A very good job.<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: The system is easy to learn and understand.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Needs to be edited a little more throughly.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>
