Wondrous Lands #01 - Nexelan Island Necropolis
by Jim C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/02/2011 06:53:59
What seems at first another random tropical island with some pirate-y legends and funny-looking lizardfolk hides much, much more. It wasn't what I was expecting, but if a DM can find a place for it in a campaign, it should be a memorable short story arc.

Very fun B-movie like sci-fi tale that could be easily adapted for D20 modern or any other "modern" like rpg, could even adapt easily to a diceless game.

LIKED: Fun.

DISLIKED: nothing

Deadlands Dime Novel #1 - Beast of Fire
by Robert R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/02/2006 00:00:00
Well written but isn't the "weird west" you may think it is. The adventure is more of classic western corruption than horror. Nothing wrong with that at all though, in fact it makes it easier to turn it into fictional-western vs. supernatural western that way.

LIKED: Well written western corruption tale.

DISLIKED: Wasn't quite what it said it was, the "Beast" has little to do with the tale.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied

Weird Wars II: Mission Manual #01
by Jim C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/10/2006 00:00:00
This is a short and straightforward mission, very much as outlined on the product page: survive killer leeches, mosquitos, mud and Japanese necromancy to blast a priceless historical relic to flinders for King and country.

Considering the price, there's not more than a couple of sessions of action here (23 pages inc cover and OGL) and only very general information for a wider campaign. The core campaign books and "Land of the Rising Dead" are really needed to play, though stat blocks are provided for creatures and items directly involved.

LIKED: The d20 to Savage Worlds switch is a nifty gadget.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied

Weird Wars II: Mission Manual #03
by Jim C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/10/2006 00:00:00
The Warsaw Uprising is a grim setting for any game, a suitable place to meet with some especially ugly and insane Nazi sorcery.

I'm not wild about his description of the deity in question or throwaway references to the Golem legend, but, artistic licence and all that, it makes a reasonable comic-book occult Nazi pastiche. Unfortunately the product falls down on bad editing and worse rules usage. There are checks called for with no listed DCs or save/skill to use, stat blocks with such entries as "Blood Drain (like in Bridge Across Time)" (an earlier product by this publisher, but good luck running the creature if you don't have it, or for that matter if you do) and partway through, the author seems to have abandoned the idea of dual stats and just written a mishmash of d20 and Savage Worlds terms.

Buy it for the non-rule flavour, or if you have some hours to spare fixing up the stats to actually run a game.

LIKED: To be fair, the shortage and need to scavenge weapons and ammunition is consistently well represented.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied

Savage Features #01 - Out of Sight

This is a trippy little psychological adventure. This new line of adventures works to be quite detailed (similar to what 12toMidnight offers). This one led me to purchase the other two.

LIKED: This is a fun little adventure that twists the characters perceptions.

DISLIKED: I don't have any complaints about this product.

This is a standard 1950s style sci-fi game, which is really written well for the setting.

LIKED: The artwork was good in this download

DISLIKED: I don't really have any slams for this product.

Deadlands Territory Guide #01 - Newfoundland
by Martin B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/28/2005 00:00:00

Very overpriced. If you take away the contents, the front & back cover and the full page advert, what remains is never worth $9.50.

What is there is of high quality - there just isn't enough of it.

LIKED: Good quality / artwork.

DISLIKED: Price.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Ripped Off

Weird Wars II: Mission Manual #01
by Martin B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/09/2005 00:00:00

The quality of the material in this download is very good. It is a shame that there is not more of it.

Of the 24 pages - if you strip out the cover, credits, license and adverts for other games you are left with roughly 18 pages.

If the price charged was appropriate for an 18 page adventure - it would have got 4 stars, but as it is - only 3 I'm afraid.

LIKED: Imaginative premise. Particularly liked the concert party character which allows you to run this as "it aint 'alf 'ot mum"

DISLIKED: Price to content ratio.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Disappointed

Critical Hits #20 - Trouble at Mille
by Mike S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/10/2005 00:00:00
A pleasing adventure with interesting, believable characters

LIKED: Product can be readily inregrating into the campaign. Pacing of adventure provides a pleasing build-up and mystery.

DISLIKED: I found the font somewhat 'thick' and ineligant. Some of the character motives where very modern, which might be a turn-off.

Savage Features #01 - Out of Sight
by Bill L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/29/2004 00:00:00
In this Savage adventure you take on the role of a psychological invesitgator that is charged with entering the mind of a depraved killer, sorting through his perverse thoughts, and gleaning enough information to save his latest victim.

In between killer clowns, vampire nurses, crawling corpses, and walls dripping with blood, lie enough spooky settings and events to keep your players on the edge of their seats.

Well-written, with good a good plot, this one-shot is easily expanded into a full-blown campaign. I can't recommend this one enough!

LIKED: The new Grounding rules and the manner in which the "pathways of the mind" were handled

DISLIKED: Not a darn thing!

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied

Critical Hits #27 - Joker's Wild
by Matthew M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/27/2004 00:00:00
This is actually a pretty fun adventure with some intrigue and running around the city.

The villain reminds me a great deal of what Keyser Soze was supposed to be from Usual Suspects. It is certainly a clever adventure that will provide many hours of entertainment.

LIKED: It is definitely different in the way it is set up and has lots of adventure.

Plus, at $2.50, you really can't go wrong.

DISLIKED: I got the distinct feeling that lots of players may feel 'railroaded' by this and may resent some of the tricks involved. Be careful about who you run this for as you don't want players getting pissy with you.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
